I started adding sound deadening and new speakers to my Lariat SuperCrew rear doors. Every thing was going great until I reinstalled the door card. For some reason the door latch cable won't stay locked into the handle. I can't see if it latches into the back of the handle properly but I think I hear it click in. I have to do it by blind feel because you can't see anything when re-installing. When I put the door card back on and try the inside handle, the cable comes off and doesn't open the door. Nothing looks broken or bent. I have checked the little plastic clip and the hole it's suppose to lock into at least 10 times but no success. I have even tried moving the inner handle to other positions while trying to clip the cable in. Doing this alone so I can't hold a mirror in while I try it and there's very little room because of the cable and harness lengths.
I have had lots of door panels off on other vehicles when changing speakers but never had this much trouble. The only good thing is the door card comes off nice and easy now that it's been on and off so many times. I don't want to start another door until I figure this out. So far U-tube has been no help and searches on this site haven't helped Lots of removals but no re-installs and other ford cables seem to have a different end configurations.
Do I need to take the handle mechanism off and connect it first? Can someone tell me the trick for properly re-connecting the cable so it stays connected?
There's lots of good information on this forum so I guess I'll have a beer and wait until someone can lead me in the right direction. LOL
