I was only able to find the FLP_DSD (desired) PID in the Forscan software. Idk why I can't find the actual? I have the latest version of Forscan according to their update. V2.3.71 which was released 2026-05-08 🤔

Is there a way for me to load that PID into the software? I couldn't find it for the life of me.
FLPA is the PID for the low pressure fuel pump pressure sensor.

This is why I dislike Forscan for T-Shooting - its cumbersome and lacks important PIDs
See if it is registered under - Low Side Fuel Pressure
The PCM has the PID - its the scan tool that displays it - Forscasn has quite a few PIDs that are not in the software set, its GREAT for As-Built Mods and Code Reading but that is where it stops

I am thinking that the pump is dropping pressure under a load, be it weak pump or dirty power or ground - yes low fuel level (consistent) will kill a pump - fuel provides a cooling effect on the pump.

Before dropping the tank - check C410 and C408 for moisture / corrosion on the associated pins from the posted wiring diagram above

C410 - Pins 1-2 and 9
C408 - Pins 11 -12 and 16

Also check the Fuel Pump Module Connector - its just above the spare tire and G403 for security, G403 we never locked in an actual location - but if you get your hand on the pump module connector and follow the ground wire to the frame - it will be very close to the module - this is G403

my first thought was plugged gas filter that would be to easy
Pump is failing .....

Pump is failing .....
There is no replaceable gas filter on the Rangers, only a sock on the fuel pump inlet. It is more likely that the pump is failing.

FYI there's two "fuel filler flapper things". I believe the outer is to keep out water and debris, the inner, further down the neck, for sealing.

Oh!? I didn't even think of that. Totally overlooked that possibility. I'll have to chevk that tonight. Maybe run a cable camera down it to check the secondary flap/valve.

Just wanted to keep everyone updated. Sorry, was out of town the last few days. The Ranger has been parked in the driveway this whole time.

I ordered the OBD Link EX Forscan tool recommended on the forscan software page thinking this would load the PID for the FLP_actual, as opposed to the cheap $12 OBD scan tool I had..... NOPE, functions just the same. So that PID is simply just not available for this truck. Which is a shame. Drives me nuts. Because the sensor is there, built into the wire harness to send that data to the computer. The fact that the computer can read it, but we can't see the live data is wild to me.

I've decided to drop the tank and replace the in tank fuel pump. Theres no way for me to diagnose the actual pressure with a fuel gauge, or test the sensor by probing because it takes hours for it to go into fault mode. So I highly suspect it to just be a failing fuel pump.

Dealership gave a $1200 rough estimate for Fuel pump replacement. $750 was for the parts.

I ordered the pump and o-ring on the Oem Ford Parts Outlet website for just $500. Gonna slap that in and see how she drives from there. Might just be throwing parts at it, but this is a good start and seems to be the most likely culprit.

I'll keep ya'll posted! Thanks for all the input!

You couldn't see the FLPA PID with Forscan? It shows up in the Forscan screenshot in post #18 above.

Yes you are replacing the most likely, and being that its been driven frequently in low fuel situations pushes the likelihood of a failing pump, being that you cannot locate the LP PID, I can conform its an available PID as I have 3 scan tools that show it and we have another members post of Forscan showing it - so IDK why you are not seeing it with your Forscan.

I would recommend, just for mere preventive as no real troubleshooting has been done and this is intermittent - is spend the extra money and replace the LP Fuel Sensor (Tube Assembly) and also do a full inspection of the wire harness that runs from C410 up across the tank - the tube assembly may not be needed, but it would be much easier than - fault still exists and its the sensor, and drop the tank again to replace it.

I would also do a full inspection of the connectors i pointed out in my earlier post as well as the ground point as those have not been ruled out yet.

This is also where i would recommend - getting a meter on the harness and just check resistance - a confirmation of wire integrity while its apart as well.

The pump itself or a dirty power / ground are high on my list of possibles, the sensor itself is a possible but low on the list, mainly due to when the issues occur - long run times and heat plus heavy loads - points to a heat generated issue which can come from the pump itself or a dirty connection (creating resistance) issues

I would have to reflect back (research) and see if the sensor itself (is a replaceable) part or does it require the tube assembly as a unit - like the Fuel Tank Pressure Sensor is.

Now: To be honest - I am questioning if we are chasing an issue that is being generated (secondary) issue from the P0217 code as the PCM may be triggering a fail safe (reduce) engine output and the PCM may be falsely reporting low pressure issues , just something that caught my attention - Does the P0217 code always show with the P008A?

I also think that the P008A code can be generating the (secondary) P0217 code which causes the engine to run hotter (lean fuel mixture) drives the combustion temps up.

Its just worth noting that the codes are related

EDIT: I just noted that only the P008A comes back

The fuel filler flap is NOT the issue here, its only related to EVAP issues and the Fuel Tank Pressure Sensor - not the Low Pressure Pump Sensor, 2 completely separate issues

Although replacing the LFP sensor would be preventive, and convenient while having the tank already down, I'm too stubborn and also curious to know if thats my actual problem, so I don't mind dropping the tank twice if it came down to that 😅 If replacing the fuel pump doesn't fix this, then i would certainly know the next most likely part would be that sensor. At 113,000 miles, and the neglect I've put this fuel pump through, its worth replacing the pump and sender assembly anyway.

I have searched and searched and cannot find that sensor on its own sold seperate from the tube assembly. The part number is Kb3z-9j280A. It can be purchased through the dealer for $135. Or through the OEM Ford Parts Outlet website for $93.

I will keep you all posted if I find any bad connections or poor contact on ground wires.
