I've done the truck camper for years and travel trailer the last 22 years. I wouldn't go back to a slide in for how we use a camper. We like to set up then be able to drive to explore, fly fish, hunt, etc. I get the overlanding thing but at that point I think I would rather invest in a quick set up tent or the off-road trailer. Both are more minimalist.

For what I’m wanting to do, I’ve been looking at tear drops.
Problem is some cost more than I paid for my truck!

Features/price, I like the Encore rog line and the Nucamp

Camped/traveled for a lot of years with the kids in a pop-up trailer. Started out with a used Palomino with the folding posts. That thing was dangerous putting down. Then moved up to a 10 foot Jayco. Saw the country in that. Now we have an Rpod by Forest River. Got tired packing and unpacking. Setting up and taking down, especially in wet weather. Weighs about 4K wet, the Ranger pulls it great, except for the mileage?. Just back it in, plug it in and your set. Also works great on the long trips for those overnights at a Flying J or Walmart. Oh yeah, also works great for a emergency pit stop when no wayside is around?.

Yeah, no kids or grandkids to worry about.
Girlfriend and 85 pound Doberman is it.
