In another thread or in the Reddit community, I noticed a post that referenced an order that started with a number. The order number provided by my dealer starts with a 'D' and they told me last week that the order went from a status/priority '19' to '10', which another poster said meant it moved from a dealer priority to a customer priority. I'm wondering if my dealer entered the order as a 'dealer' order and not as a 'customer' order and perhaps Ford is prioritizing customer-ordered vehicles ahead of dealer-ordered vehicles. This might also explain why I am not getting any email notifications. It also concerns me slightly that I am relying on my dealer to know that when this truck does roll off a truck in their lot that it is mine and not a vehicle to be sold to the next person that lusts over it.

Priority 10-19 are retail customer orders. 20-99 are for dealer stock, fleet, etc. The lower the number the higher the priority subject to the specific dealer's allocation. If dealer A has no allocation left in a month, the orders are carried forward to the next month unless the dealer cancels or amends the orders. It can happen where Dealer B gets their stock order built before dealer A's retail order, because B had an available allocation slot that month.
1-9 are set aside for zone orders; press, special events, vip etc.

Back in the 80's I was selling at a Ford store.
One of the owner's friends, a contractor and big fleet client, ordered a Crown Victoria LX for his wife, eta 8-10 weeks.
The car arrived timely, but with one small problem: the two tone silver/grey was reversed. He wanted the silver on top and grey in the middle, and here was the car; grey/silver/grey.
"It still is lovely don't you think?"
"No. Order another one."
"Perhaps we can find one already..."
"I don't buy off the rack anything!"
"Of course, I'll take care of it."
"Yes you will."
10 days later the new car with correct paint arrived.

Ordered 2021 Ranger on August 18. Got a VIN within two weeks. Dealer called me in October said my order had been bumped to a 2022. Got a nice email from Ford confirming the 2022 order on 10/29 and have not heard a word since.
I have contacted the dealer a couple times and so far he has not given me any new information. Glad I did not sell my old workhorse truck yet.

I understand why people do it but doesn't sound like a streamline process ordering from Ford. I hope this isn't the future of truck buying as dealer lots have such few options on hand right now.
Ford and GM want only custom ordering to happen. the problem is they are so tied up iinto dealerships they can't break out of the mold. combined with massive backlogs and it is a shit show.

I ordered one car once. I ordered a 2007 Nissan sentra. it took 3 weeks to arrive. That should be the time frame 4-6 weeks. however most people can't wait 4-6 weeks for a vehicle. 2 years ago my wife's car failed inspection (the struts had started breaking off) and we had to get a new car the same day. other wise we would need rentals.

Pretty good bet most of the ones people are waiting for have been built and parked in a lot somewhere close to the plant waiting for the remaining parts (electronics) to arrive so they can install them and get them on transports to you.

This is not just a Ford problem. It’s the same now for everyone.

My guess is after 1
2st quarter 2022 things will get back to something a little more reasonable. Time will tell with that prediction though

Scott, you should see how bad Ford has screwed up the Bronco orders. However, you should be OK. You ordered kind of in the middle of production changover to the '22 MY. Things are always in limbo then. Add the chip supply issue, and parts supplier constraints, and everything is FUBAR. Hang on, and you should see things slowly move forward as January progresses. The waiting is the hardest part I assure you. Good luck, and congratulations on your upcoming Ranger.

My story. I ordered mine on Sept. 01, 2020. Took maybe 4 weeks to get a VIN, and the pace slowed after that. The truck arrived on Dec. 06, 2020. That was right before all the big problems started.

Things are crazy now but over the past 50 years of buying new cars I would say 70% of them have been factory orders. The shortest wait from order to delivery was one day short of 6 weeks and the longest was 12 weeks and the 12 week one was a screw up by the salesman, he didn't enter the order for 4 weeks (the salesman lost his job over that incident and a couple of others).

When I was younger and finances were tighter almost all my cars were factory orders because I wanted what I wanted and didn't want to pay for things that I didn't care about. Over the past 10 years I have factory ordered two, had two brought in from another dealership and took two off the lot. The two off the lot had all the things I wanted and a bunch I didn't care about but financially I can pay for the extras now and went for them.

I am getting more and more frustrated by the lack of progress on the build of my ordered Ranger Lariat.

Adding to this frustration is a similar lack of communications from my dealer. I have been calling weekly since the '22 was added asking for a VIN to track progress myself but so far, no return calls. Ford Marketing simply says the order is in 'order processing'. (I call them after no calls from the dealer). It has been 16 weeks since the original order and 6 weeks since the '22 was added.

I don't have a clue if the order is screwed up and won't ever get built or if the specs of my truck (Lariat, Supercab, 4x4, towing, tech package) are causing the delay or if it's on the precipice of production. No one at Ford or at the dealer seems to have a clue.

So I have given my needs to a number of local Toyota dealers for a similar Tacoma and are waiting for one of them to call me back when an SR5/TRD Sport 4x4 V6 with the Access cab & Tech package, in any color other than black, shows in an upcoming delivery.

Whichever truck shows up first will be mine.

Ford send out email on Vin and Production every Thursday. Your is a supercab like mine. Better question would be is the recall 20-21 headrest in back issues, going to cause a big delay. I don't know. I ordered on 11/11/21. Lariat would probably get built pretty quick. Other options can cause a delay. Dealer allocations, Priority order number ? Normally 10-19. Lower number the better. Because if your 19 and someone walks in and get 11, 13 or anything lower then 19. It might get build before yours. All depends on the order. I do believe Supercabs are taking longer, sense 37000 ish 20-21 recall and some dealer and customer are waiting on head rest fix. Hope this helps I assume you did get fords confirmation order email
