I tend to think of paying labor costs as a fee for them doing things I cannot or do not wanna do. i could most likely get my front suspension changed out myself. however, it would take me a long damn time lol. Id mess at least one thing up, have to go buy more parts, a box of band aids. I would be lacking one tool that is vital and would have to go buy it. me compressing spring for struts in driveway is never a good idea lol.

With some fear of re-beating a dead horse...

Too many people feel they're being ripped off by every business from Amazon to Zero Corp! Yet, not one of them complain when they get a raise from their employer. And, they never ask how that employer is going to cover the cost of the raise! If you think the employer is going to take it out of his pocket, you're grossly mistaken! All of this is simple Economics 101.

To be sure, there are all manner of gougers, rip off artists and scammers out there! In fact, the press would have you believe, there aren't any more legitimate businesses. If you think that, you're mistaken about that too!

All of this palaver about businesses ripping off John Q. Public right and left, reminds me of the adjectives used by posters to YouTube, to rake in the gullible. Personally, I don't fall for misinformed sensationalism, but apparently too many do!

What is a fair charge for a mechanic to install front struts, needing some eibachs installed

What I paid for Bilstein 4600s all the way around.

$390 and change for the shocks/struts delivered. Two vendors involved unfortunately.


Services provided by a well equipped, competent nearby shop.

$480 for the strut installation
$108 for the shock installation
$90 for a 4 wheel alignment

No sales tax on invoice

Labor Total: $678.00

Edit: I received a 15% discount for being a senior citizen, an all around good guy and repeat customer who didn't always try to act like I knew more than he did.

For those complaining about the price of labor, just DIY. if you don’t have the knowledge, the tools, or the time, guess you’ll have to pay someone that does. I mean it’s just a vehicle that you’re barreling down the highway in with your family. What’s that worth?

The price of manual labor for working on cars is a massive scam. They charge about 4x the cost to actually pay the employee and Admin staff. Don't forget they're already making a cut off the price of materials that they almost surely inflated. Someone once told me $200/hr for a mechanic (one) and I laughed and walked out. That's the cost of a manager at a professional services firm, not someone that took technical training for manual labor and probably didn't even go to school. To be clear there is NOTHING wrong with someone wanting to do that for a living, this is about prices.

Always negotiate labor costs.

You seem to have a problem with people that do manual labor.
