Key Jams In Door

I had no issue yesterday inserting the key into the driver's door to unlock the truck but all of a sudden today it jams part way through.

I have no issues using the key on the passenger side door to lock/unlock it but I can only insert the key partiality in the driver's side before it stops.

I tried WD-40 to see if something was sticking within the lock and had no such luck loosening something up. The key maybe goes in the first 1/3rd of the way until it comes to a hard stop.

Anyone else had this issue before? (The truck is an 2023 XL. No key fob.

Probably will not help you, but I have had better luck with the Graphite powder for lubricating locks. WD40 tends to attract dirt, better to use a dry lubricant.

You don't think someone jammed something into the lock?
Try a small paper clip and see if it goes back far enough.

No key fob? The XL should have a keyed fob.

Did you buy it used?

If you have the FordPass app try opening it with that. Then you'll know if it's something stuck in the lock like Bill @fob63 said or it's something else.

My first reaction to the OP was, "Passenger Door?" I don't have a key slot in my passenger door, and it was my impression that Ford has not had such for many years. This brings up a few questions, besides the one about why no key FOB. Does Turtle876 have a Ranger that has been rebuilt with a few changes to what came off the assembly line, or is this Ranger one that was built with some strange specifications? My curiosity is now at a high level!

I have a very basic xl. Ordered it that way from the factory. No key FOB and passenger side keyhole.

I would probably go to a locksmith and have them look in the keyhole with a scope and have them clean out the wd40.

I know that David @subquark has an XL Ranger and he’s mentioned using his key fob so I guess there’s an XL even more basic-er (that’s a word right?) than Soupie.

I was able to use a wire the length of the key but not the key itself.

No key fob. Purchased brand new. It was custom ordered but the purchase fell through with the person who speced it.

It locks and unlocks internally but the key doesn't insert all the way into the lock to open/lock it.

The truck was purchased new but the truck was speced by someone else where the sale fell through at the dealer. I guess I didn't realize other Rangers didn't have a passenger lock on the passenger side.
