Doesn't mean I'm wrong.

Recently went on a trip into town to pick up a pair of light hiking boots and boat shoes at North 40 since idiot me forgot to pack anything but my Keen work/hike boots which weigh a ton. Super comfortable, durable, and will last forever...but weigh a ton.

Now I know IG tracks you even if you opt out of cross site tracking. They even go as far to tap into my Mac since my phone updates through the Mac. Things i've searched for on the Mac but never on the phone immediately show up in my feed. But this is what has me scratching my head. The boat shoes I bought I've never heard of, never searched for, never even knew the brand existed until I visited the store. The shoes or the box did not contain any sort of NFC device. But I did have. a lengthy conversation with two of the gals working who both recommended the shoes, so the brand name was spoken many times.

Later that evening I go to check my feed......WTF! There is an advert for the brand of shoes. Is it possible IG utilizes the microphone and listens for key words? Way to much of coincidence, so call me paranoid.

Is Siri on?

On a related note, I know Google reads my gmail.

I have a friend who lives near Chico. We were conversing via email about the Oroville dam issues they were having a few years ago.

A few days later, YouTube is nominating Oroville Dam disaster prediction videos.

No Siri is off for both "Hey Siri" and lock screen. So I have to physically push the side button to activate.

Only thing that makes sense to me is if there was a store display with NFC, which I'm doubting but could easily go check. Or the bad....that they do listen in on the microphone.

i am pretty sure Apple isn’t listening if Siri if off. That just seems like a career ender for Tim if it came to light.

No way Apple lets another app listen.

I give. ;)

I think whomever is pulling it off, they count on everyone giving up.

in a short sweet note. yes. we have no privacy.

more than a decade ago verizon and its associates filed for patent on a cable box for verizon tv that listened and learned stored and then up loaded your monitored behaviors conversations and so on to be broken down into add sales and a few other things. example of how it works : you and a friend talk about beef and beer, you can expect a spot for beer or meats to show up soon. You and the wife get in a heated argument, spot for divorce lawyers or couples therapy will run soon lol. I know it sounds like Kurt Vonnegut's Harrison Bergerone but its true. they did get a patent for the tech. supposedly it was not to be used, just a research project... You can imagine how much more advanced that tech is now with modern "smart" devices. pretty damn creepy if you ask me. Data mining and trackin is the new gold prospecting and mining.

Wake up people. They listen to every word you say. If you read the fine print on Facebook it tells you they have the right to listen to every word you say on any device that has the Facebook app. That's why I don't have any social media with the exception of forums. My wife and I (she has Facebook) were talking one evening in our living room about how much money we needed to transfer to pay for a remodel we were doing. She picked up her computer and logged into the bank and the amount we were discussing was already in the box for transfer. And the bank she was at won't allow that amount to be transferred online. Very scary world we live in.

IDK man my friends and I will talk about stuff when we hang out, the most random obscure thing no searches for it phones just sitting locked on the table and without fail we always get loads of ads for the things right after, heck one time we did it as a joke and had a conversation about sewing and still got ads for sewing stuff. I have not once in my life ever looked up or shopped for anything sewing related yet after that conversation about 2 hours and change later boom sewing ads everywhere

For those wearing the tinfoil hats in the room

Serious advice; try the app GlassWire

It will show you how, when, etc an app is using data and it is super easy to shut it down. I have used it to shut apps up as well as stop work from contacting me over various apps for years. I am out of town.... app off. Get back in town; two clicks; app back on again.

Flashlight pushing data..... probably a problem. Uninstall or at least stop it from being able to send or receive any data.

Using Google Maps and then getting mad it knows when you go to the gym? That app can't help you there...
