Dump the jumper cables (they’re dangerous) and get a jump/power pack. I’ve used (my Cobra) one for years and it works every time.
...and stores in a door pocket, glovebox, or glove compartment .

Because of the lock down handles for our tonneau cover, we can't use these swing storage things. I would like to have one of them! I also looked under the front seats and there is not enought room for our cables.
Yeah, they don't work for everybody for sure. And there are times where I have to pull mine out in order to either use the tie-downs in that location or get more space in the bed or whatever. So they're certainly not a perfect solution.

My other thought was you could build some storage bins or cubbies into the floor you made for your dog. Or even just throw things under there if you wanted. Or build it up higher to fit more space.

Dearest says they might fit under the dog shelf and I was just outside to check and they do! The seat was moved forward for the photo. (note to myself, ask wifey)

I included some photos of the cover latches. I would not get this cover again. When we fill the bed with camping junk, sometimes we can't lock the cover down.........

I've been looking at getting something like that. How long does it hold a charge? As forgetful as I can be at times I'm afraid I'd charge it, toss it in the truck and forget about it. Then when I need it the most, say a year later or so, the battery would be dead.

We've already got cables and you can look and them and say "they should work". Granted they'll not work if you don't have another vehicle around but we do commonly have our 6x6 with us as a power source. Same as you ask, "how long will they still work a viable power source?" I am a believer in the KISS engineering system. :)

I check mine every 6 -9 months or so, and it usually does NOT need any charging...and mine is 6 years old already.
Plus, one charge will give numerous jumps. Most can be used to charge anything USB....and most have built in flashlights.

My power pack also lasts a long time and is good for several boost and can charge your cell phone and acts as a flashlight. Cables are reliable if there is another vehicle around. The booster can get you going if no one else is around. In the ideal world you have both.

I usually check mine every few months, but that's mostly because I use it quite a bit and want to keep it topped off. I'll usually try and give it a check before any of our week+ long trips or any winter trips. At this point it's just become part of my usual trip packing routine. Pack the clothes, grab the dog food, top off the jump pack, phone, keys, wallet, etc. haha Mine also has a built-in air compressor, work lights, and USB and 12V charging. I use it all around the house and when we're out camping so usually it needs a top off every once in awhile.

The compressor is nice for pumping up the bike tires when I get to a trail and realize a tire is low or flat (a lot easier and quicker than a hand pump especially with how much air the fat bike tires take), or I notice a low tire on the truck or the camper while on the road in the middle of nowhere, or when the lawn mower gets a flat in the middle of the yard.

Speaking of the lawn mower, often times I have to jump the mower and the pack is a great use for that. I've done 5 or 6 jumps of the mower before it gets to about 50% charge. Smaller battery and draw, but you get the idea.

The USB and 12V charging have come in handy while out camping to charge a phone or run a fan when it gets crazy hot (which is anything above 85F for us haha). It's not as good for that type of stuff as a GoalZero type battery pack or anything, but it gets you by in a pinch if need be.

In the end, it's something I wouldn't leave home without, and something I definitely recommend. Especially if you're like us and spend a lot of time away from other people and power sources. And if nothing else just for the multitude of features it gives me. I also have jumper cables as well, but those haven't gotten use in many years.
