Kind of ironic how much life this thread has had this week.... and this week has been a freaking week from hell for me (and others in my same role). If I was in a position to use your 3 day rule I'd be retiring today. Sigh....

So, what was the root cause for my miserable week???? True incompetence internally at my employer. Seriously. But even worse, it is incompetence at a very high level. Just utter bullshit.

And don't even get me started at some of the crazy shenanigans going on at a bit lower level all, being done to hide a colassal f*** up from the very highest level.

Good example of why I like listening to our quarterly earnings calls. Best damn fiction story you'll ever find. Wall Street has no clue. Nor do our "leaders."

Can't make this ? up.

Did I mention that I want to retire?
Is it Friday yet? ?

Bummer on the bad week, but unfortunately it seems like company CYA is normal now. :punch:

I see and feel your pain every single day...... It isn't about what is right, it is about how anything can be spun to be a positive. Senior management is so clueless because those below them never want to deliver bad news - so EVERYTHING is "great".

I'm hoping I have < 37 weeks until I can get the hell out of here..... If I were a younger man, I would have looked for a different job several years ago, but at my age I'm not willing to start over from scratch - I'm just trying to survive at this point.

Dilbert is very much alive in corporate America! You can't make some of this stuff up.

I feel for all of you that are working in today's environment. It was only a few years ago I was being asked to do 2-3 different jobs so the company could streamline and save money. As people retired or quit, they were not replaced and we all had to cover more work. Thank God it is Saturday..............

Pretty soon, you’ll be wondering what the heck day of the week it is. All the best in retirement!
Go be a cop on night shift. Same thing. I'm double screwed at retirement. "What year is it?"

Retired, work is a four letter word.
After I retired for the second time at 57 'work' turned into a four letter word. Took me about 6 months to slow down, after a while I began to wonder where I ever found time to work I was so 'busy' being retired. It has now been almost 20 years, believe me when I say you will get used to it real fast. Get some hobbies and stay off the couch, have fun, and congrats!

So true, got tired of passing my wife as she was going to work and I was getting off shift, then going into my blacked out room to get 6 hours sleep to do it again.

My company recently made a change. They 'sold' nearly the entire IT group to what I call a Body Shop. Meaning, they made a deal with the devil to move 500 people, give or take, to a 3rd party, and we all now work as contractors for the original company. The new company is in the biz to provide 'bodies' for hire, and the old company decided it was best to expense the cost of the employees instead of have them (us) as overhead.

I just turned 62, so I said F that noise. I needed to stay on for 6 weeks with the new company to get my insurance for some 'stuff'. But, today, I officially told my manager (from the old company) in a private call, of my intention to tender my resignation in 2 weeks. I gave her the heads up as a courtesy, because she's been awesome.

So, this is it. In a month, (2 weeks, plus my 2 week notice) then I'll be retired.

Wow.

Congrats! Six years left for me, let the countdown begin!

Congrats!

While I'm not fully retired yet, I took early retirement from my career at the end of 2019. I was going to wait until max age (57) but could only last a little less than 2 years once I transferred back to my home state. I drive a school bus part time now. not a bad job, a lot of time off including summers so its a good fit for right now. Its a great feeling leaving the grind behind...enjoy!

I worked for my last company for 23 yrs. When I turned 70 they made noises about retiring. I got about a quarter year of vacation saved up and refused a buyout for tax reasons. So I continued to receive a paycheck every 2 weeks till the vacation ran out. Thing was there were only 3 people in the country that did what I did. Now there is only two. And one I only had a few weeks to "train". (It actually takes years to see it all and know it all)

I had the early retirement surprise a little while ago - different circumstances but the timing was against the original plan. All worked out and I sure hope it does for you Tom.

I retired 13 months ago and moved to the Cape. Great decision. This was supposed to happen 4 years ago but Fortune 50 Inc. laid me off due to age and I was out of work for 10 months. I wound up taking a job at half my rate for the remainder but it was worth it. It got me here.

Enjoy your retirement. I've never been busier doing important things.
