The difference is that Toyota reacted relatively quickly. Ford did not.

Both should be proactive, replacing/repairing transmissions that are known to be defective before they leave people stranded on the side of the road, or worse. I am thinking CDF drum and valve body solenoids.

And while they are at it give realistic fluid change intervals, and real dipsticks to allow people to check/service the transmission.

Not really. All of these issues (except the stalling) plagued their transmissions from 2016 on. I had a 2016 Tacoma and the rough shifting and delayed acceleration were very common in every one of them. It's well documented on the Tacoma World site and if you dared question it you were immediately pounced on by the fan bois there! Like Ford they did multiple TSB's which didn't do much and are only kicking the can down the road like Ford is doing. This is all smoke and mirrors to try and save face again and keep the Tacoma as the top selling mid size truck.

Probably because it is happening in most Tacos, unlike in some Rangers.
Let's not forget the 100,000 engines Toyota has to replace due to manufacturing problems.
Toyota, ain't what it used to be.

EDIT: Don't forget GM also has transmission problems.

Good ! I like rough, unpredictable crappy transmissions, glad to see the market expanding... I think Nissan ? my need to follow suit if they want to stay in the game, hardly any transmission talk on their forums...

Maybe, do they need one even ?? What would the threads be ? "Why does my transmission shift smoothly and quietly? Is it ready to fail?" Or "When coming to a stop , I feel nothing ? Is that normal ? " ...

I can't lie, I'd like to have those threads here.

More likely though to have "Why won't my steering column tilt/telescope?"
"How do I fix this gap between my hood and fender?"

Toyota could just as well put a 2 speed tranny in the Tacoma and it would still outsell any mid size truck competitor by a wide margin.

This is the problem with Toyota. They can do no wrong; even when they do really wrong. Their fanbase is blinded by old statistics of reliability. I had two Toyota 4runners with 22RE engines, the most reliable of the engines, and both blew up in spectacular fashion. One blew out a bolt on the crankshaft bearing on the rod. It was amazing, I wish I had pictures.

I traded a 2019 Nissan Frontier in on my Ranger it had a four-speed automatic and shifted super smooth. Big problem was the floor shifter did not have a lock out shifter so going down the road at 70 you could push shifter into neutral my border collie did it that's how I found out.
