2020 FX4 magnetic grey, 302A & tech pkg. 2019 is gone. XLT super cab, ingot silver, 302a, tow & tech packages
Time to replace my 1999 Ranger. Looking for a supercab XLT without technology package or fancy appearance add ons. Had the Admiral try to climb in a FX with the 18" tires & she really struggled to climb up. I do not want running boards. Think I have located one 50 miles away with 17" tires. Is that the same height as a standard 4wd? I would prefer non FX but can't locate one.
Thanks
Al

I believe there is a 1/2" difference in height between 4x2 and 4x4, however the FX4 should be the same as a regular 4x4.

Thanks for the replies. Don't need or really want a FX4. Around urban Ma. there is no place to reap the benefits of the package. I do want a supercab with the 302a package without the tech package. I also want the tow option. Around here that is as rare as hen's teeth.
Going on the Ford site, I can only search up to 100 miles away.
Al
P.S. I'm pushing 71 & I've learned through the years that if the Admiral is not happy, NO ONE IS.

Although the website only allows up to 100 miles, you can change that in the URL as so:

https://shop.ford.com/inventory/ranger/results?zipcode=97045&Radius=100

That "radius" parameter is the search radius - I changed it up to 500 miles and it works.

Thanks Rob,
Did the 500 mile search & located two possible ones. Depends on what I want to give up or pay xtra for. Plus, they are both blue. I much prefer the silver.
What's interesting is both are less than 60 miles away & only showed up in the 500 mile search which only reported results up to 90 miles away.

I have a non FX4 and to me it looks like the FX4's are slightly taller in the front end (maybe a 1/2 or inch) but I have not measured it so it could just be the tires. I did ask my salesman and he said the FX4 has off road shocks so could be a little tall due to that. The FX4 has slightly taller tires than the non so that alone will lower is all the way around about a 1/2".

I've had the same experience with the Ford truck finder, The results are not always accurate.

My dad got the non-FX4 Ranger in hot pepper red with literally ever other option, now he cries that he didn't get the FX4 even though he hasn't been off road since 1987, and thought the same way you did. It's 1200$ in a nearly $45K truck. if you get the rear locker, it's even less of a difference. We're probably going to use Forscan to turn most of the features on, and see if we can source some of the extra buttons to add it fully.

I have already used the FX4 features in my urban commute (terrain management on ice and snow, and trail control in a traffic jam), so don't discount them entirely even if you never plan to be off of pavement.

I can also see the trail control being AWESOME on a boat ramp as it's really intelligent about which wheels to spin, and when.

I second this. I went to my local dealership to look at a truck and found out it wasn't to the dealership what. The dealer told me that the Ford site lists a vehicle at a dealership as soon as it leaves the factory - so it could potentially be weeks in transport before it is physically on the lot that the website says it is.

Somewhere back in my weak memory a road test or something told me that the FX4 was a little taller. My boss has trouble with tall vehicles so I didnt bite. I sure didnt need a trail management gaget. Shocks do not change the ride height. If you want ex actually what you want then you have to do the order it dance approx. 4 months. There was a guy on this site that flew from CA to GA to get the one he wanted.

Now that is a clever repurposing of the feature. Funny how the name locks in a mental expectation of its purpose. This takes it from being for the off road guys only, to useful for everyone.

Now if it was Adaptive Trail Control they would sell 800 million of these. You still have to do some fiddling, but it works in 2WD, which makes it really useful. I can also see myself using this to tow my camper through campgrounds. I like to think outside the box.
