The only real issue with these is indeed the 'snag potential'. I personally don't see it as all of my off-roading is beach and desert. I can't imagine how fast "IN REVERSE" some of these clowns would be going to snag acause paint damage. If you are that close to branches you are getting scratches anyway, although with these in forward drive you have a side rail protective factor.
What makes you think one would have to be going fast in reverse to snag something with these?

The problem with your "side rail protective factor" idea is that with the back of these unsupported the step will fold with any significant force applied. Doesn't do much good to protect your "side rail" if there's mangled metal hanging off it.

The hoop style steps are horrible too, but at least they'd be a little stronger than these things when you bang them on rocks.

So you didn't like the Ridgeline comment I take it? :D

It's a forum. Shit happens.

One of your best yet.

Some people are just sensitive.

 As a side benefit... if they made these for Ridgelines... the owner could hang their purse on the step to free up their hands.
Careful now, you don't want to offend the "damper crowd" too.

Frankly, I'm kind of disappointed @HenryMac didn't mention the damper crowd hanging their purse of the side step. ;)
