What kind of temperature differences are people seeing with aftermarket intercoolers? I've seen companies say 7 degrees and others say up to 50 degrees. Do pipes in addition to the intercooler make that big of a difference? I've noticed my truck has a knock or pinging underload but only when it's warm out so I'm wondering if lower intake temps would solve that. Ford has been zero help after 4 different visits

Weird. I live on the Texas coast and never had issues when it gets to stupid hot. I think we have bigger ICs than the mustang? So they are not tiny for the power. Might be wrong on that size thing. Read it somewhere.

That said. No idea what aftermarket does to help and I hope you get your issue sorted. If the south coast guys and middle of the sand dudes are good with the stock unit, I'd be worried something else is wrong/needs to be fixed instead of getting a bigger IC that will eventually heat soak unless you only do very short trips.

I have an aftermarket intercooler and I did the before and after datalog, i see an average of 20 degrees lower temp on the iat2 pid, I have recently added the hot side pipe upgrade and didn't notice any difference in the iat2 temps so far

Which intercooler did you go with?

I got the ESP intercooler on special for 300 bucks but if I had to do it all over again I would go cvf for the price

My assumption is that if the actual air volume of a replacement intercooler is larger than stock the potential cooling is greater. The tradeoff would be a delay fully pressurizing the system from the turbo to the throttle body. Just replacing the charge pipes affects the way power seems to come on even though dyno testing by other people doesn't show any losses. The only articles I've read that absolutely advocate for upgrading the IC are tuners that are running higher ethanol levels for power. If you have access to E30 and are tuning the truck it may have some minor benefit. Our trucks aren't specifically designed for E85 although some are running it and Ford only approved E15 as the max. There are kits out there to 'convert' cars to E85 but I haven't found one the manufacturer specifically offers for the Gen 5 Ranger.

on my data logs I did notice a jump in torque almost 30 ft pounds after the intercooler install this pic is before the intercooler install look at the turbo air flow difference

I presume you have the ProLink OBD interface along with the HP Tuners suite? I'd like the monitoring software (leave the tuning to the pros) but the $400 interface is a deterrent. I see they have other interfaces for other sensors, that would be interesting. To be able to access more data on demand would be a fun tool.

The difference in air temps was what I guess addresses some of our rationale for upgrading an intercooler. Curious how all the variables play here.
