How robust are the stock CV axles? Worth upgrades, if any available?

I am wanting to have a set of extra axles for backup when wheelin.
I am trying to decide between going to the junkyard and pulling some CVs while I grab an extra driveshaft or if I can upgrade the stock CVs and use my stocks as backups.

Find out if you have the tow pack 2 prior to buying or chasing down any. You’ll be in for a rude surprise if you don’t. All for about a quarter inch. Ask me how I know.

Yes but is it the tow pack 2? from what I found out there is tow pack and then tow pack 2. At least what ford told me. mine is 2, which is the longer axle and of course more expensive. View rock auto to compare.

The tow pac 2 would be if you got the receiver hitch tow 1 is just the ball mount on the bumper.. So I cannot use a tow2 axle on my non tow because it's a 1/4" longer? are the splines the same? there must be something else different then. The hubs and knuckels #'s look the same.

Not positive on what takes it to a 2 but yes the 2 comes with a 1/4” longer axle. I tried the regular one and it would pop at the slightest hint of a turn. The splines matched. The threaded end was not long enough for me to fully seat the big spindle nut. I’ve heard the rotors are thicker on the tow pack 2’s. I cannot confirm that part.
