So some ex FBI bunny went on the news and did an interview about the Maine shooter. She (stupidly) divulged that the FBI can pull all the GPS locations he's been, internet searches and other infomation off his infotainment system in his car if his phone has ever been paired or plugged into the USB. I figured there is some info in there but didn't realize the phone downloads everything into a hard drive in the vehicle.
I don't know about "stupidly divulged. " Probably not common knowledge, but I doubt it is classified information, either. Ford Connect, OnStar, U-Connect, all of them track you whether you are using your phone or not.

Not if you pull the telematics fuse and unplug the modem.

Thats crazy it does that. You can always get one of those usb data blockers but then Android auto isn't going to work

That's what I was thinking, same with the whole APIM. I don't know how everything is interconnected, but I suspect if the fuse for the telematics is pulled I have to think it would diminish or stop the smartphone features as well;
The Ford Motor company needs to know how often you roll the passenger window down and when, and will hold up your Spotify until the telematics are working again, my two one hundredths of a dollar.

Face it, there is no such thing as privacy anymore. Doesn't matter what you drive. If you have a cell phone, somebody somewhere knows where you are and how fast you are going somewhere else. Every site you visit is being tracked, how to you think they know what adds to throw at you. If you have any connected device on you or in your home. And, I do mean ANY, somebody somewhere knows where you are and what you are doing. Whether you are wearing your tinfoil hat or not. You like the convenience of the modern tech, live with the fact the someone somewhere is watching. Even the wilds of Northern Canada is probably not far enough off-grid these days.

I pulled the fuse and unplugged the modem months ago. The only thing that doesn't work is the Fordpass app on my phone and the connectivity settings in the vehicle display menu gives errors. So the phone communicates with the truck through USB only and the truck doesn't communicate to anything else nor can anything communicate to it, unless through usb or Bluetooth. Actually I haven't tried bluetooth...

What if your vehicle gets stolen? You can track it using the Ford Pass app.
