S & H Green Stamps were popular up through the 70s. Many stores, gas stations and supermarkets would carry them. You would get a number of stamps based on the amount of your purchase and paste in your Saver Book. when your book(s) was full you could redeem it/them for merhcandise, like steak knives can openers, clock radios etc. If you bought a cartload of groceries, you'd get a couple of pages, and use a wet sponge to activate the glue; the sponge was a premium item, too!

My grandmother would save those. I'm guessing if I looked hard enough around dad's basement I'd find some.

I seem to remember my family doing this with Pal Mal cigarettes.

That's how my wife got our "good china" before we got married. You'd get a place setting (plate, cup and saucer) for buying so much and You'd clip the weekly coupon for the serving piece. I think that's where our silverware came from too.

I also remember my folks going to the filling (gas) station that gave premiums for getting a fill up. They had a glass case between the pumps and you could pick a glass or coffee cup for filling up. The only coffee cups we had were those green "Fireking" ones.

Oh, the memories.
S&H Green Stamps got me my first bow when I was 8!

We got Plaid Stamps from A&P. Got my first hardball and bat from them. Wanted a baseball mitt also but they only had right handed versions ?. That's where mom got our Christmas presents.
