I consistently get between 23-24 overall at elevations around 7,000'. I punch it when I need to but otherwise always use the cruise for economy.

My former 5.4 F150 never got better than 15, 10 with a trailer on. It is like I died and went to heaven!

I have 6500 miles on my Lariat super cab 4x4, I got 25.5 by my calculation's and truck said 27.2 on a round trip from Cleve. OH to Lakeland FL (2500 Miles) went 70 the whole way. seems to me if you keep the engine under 3000 RPM you get your best mileage. I found the lighter my foot the better the mileage. It's still nice to know you can go 60 to 80 in a flash when you need to. BTW total combined is over 22.

I would take your manual figures to the dealer. I think that your eng is overfueling. Computer or sensor or injecter. Dealer could put it on a emissions tester to see if it is overfueling. If you running too rich then your cat converter will be shot so go now.

When I'm on the highway/long trips I get excellent mileage, mid 20's. During the work week however I'm in stop and go traffic. The AC is on since it's summer....and when I'm on lunch I usually have the truck on which kills mileage since you are literally sitting there, going nowhere, but using fuel.

Stop and go traffic kills the MPG's. Also, high temperatures don't help. I'm in Southern California so I get both. The turbo makes more power and burns more efficiently with cooler air, so if you are in a warmer climate you can see it drop. Try higher octane to make up for the higher temperatures, and be gentle off the line.

It sounds like it's your drive cycle that's the main culprit. Just curious, is there any soot present in your tailpipe ? Mine is clean as a whistle.
Not that I've ever noticed. Looks clean to me and my drying towel never picks anything up!

Good to know!

Like some others, I notice a large difference between stop-and-go and continuous driving, a bigger difference than in any other vehicle I've had. This is the first turbocharged vehicle, though, so that could be part of it. Cruising a flat highway at 65, I get high 20's (27 or so, better than EPA for the 4wd model); stop and go hitting all the signals wrong and it can be as low as 17-18 even if I drive carefully.

I've got about 500 miles on my 4wd XLT crew. I have about 19 mile round trip commute. The computer indicates an average speed of 18 MPH and MPG is 16.2. I use auto-start/stop and try my best to run with a light foot.

Like the original poster - I was hoping for more...
I have tried the night-light in the rear seat socket getting 22.2 mpg give it a try. Recieved my Ranger on March 28th.

I wonder if it's something to do with the local gas. I also mostly use gas from Costco in San Diego and I get 18 MPG 80/20 hwy/city
I'll try a tank of something other than Costco next time. I'm tracking via fuelly, same as some others here on the forum. Another note is I only have a 6 mile work commute via back streets, each way. At this point I'm not doing anything other than keeping up with traffic the majority of the time so no crazy driving habits. By 3-4K miles I should have a decent understanding to determine if an issue.

So to start I don't live in boost or WOT. I drive pretty normally and admittedly take full advantage of the turbo while getting on the highway/passing, etc. I'm at a little over 3k on the odo and have been getting 16mpg pretty consecutively. I put in 89 octane (as opposed to 87) yesterday to see but time will tell, in one day it's about the same if not a little worse...... Ideas?

Well all I'd have to do is uninstall the Autostop Eliminator under the console. But, it literally makes me angry every time it cycles. Irrational? Yes, but still......
Well you could give it a try. If it doesn't help much then put the eliminator back on. I have read some reports the the Rangers are thirsty when they idle. I guess it depends if you do a lot of stop and go.
