Pretty sure in MI its 4ft. Don't know about FL though, but that's an interesting thing I should revisit... I know my kayaks currently extend more than a foot, and the bikes for sure.

EDIT: US DOT is federal but each state DOT also has the same law.

Tailgate down is still considered part of the length of the truck.

I hauled 5x 16' pieces of molding. It went all the way from the front windshield through the back window, and over the tailgate 5' or so. I of course stapled a red flag on the end of it because that's the courteous thing to do so you don't impale someone behind you.

Mine is Saber as well, It does go from bright Gold to butterscotch with the light... but that picture looks chocolate brown on my PC

Home Depot has those red flags at the exit for those who need one. And a staple gun to put them on.

Yeah I was at Lowes and knew I should have had something but forgot to grab a red rag from the house before. Luckily it was not too far of a drive
