what in the world. seeing a 2023 date made it more real, thats so far away

Trust me as you get older the years go by quicker, before you know it it'll be 2023.

Smart move as a house will be an asset and you can always get your truck in a few years. Just make sure you get a good home inspector so you
don't end up with a money pit! Live within your means and don't buy a McMansion. Remember that all that extra square footage will cost you in utilities and taxes if you don't really need it. Being self employed,I took out a 30 year mortgage just to have the lower payment but made extra payments and payed it off in 10 years. Then I used that extra $$$ to fund my retirement funds.

Time will pass before you know it!
Sometime way to fast! :frown:

Ain't That the truth. I guess as we get older we are happier and the days go by fast....Faster when retired for some reason......Getting up at 1PM and going to bed at 4AM might be the reason LOL Both my wife and I are night owls. With two music careers, we are destined to be night owls...

Day Owls indeed...

I thought when I passed 60 I would be getting up at 6 AM and bedding at 9 PM.... I cannot think of things to do between 8 AM and noon LOL. Thankfully my wife, dogs, my cat and I are on the same schedule.
My only retirement rule is don't turn on the TV until after 6PM. Which isn't hard when rolling out of bed at 1 or 2PM

So I spend most nights binge-watching all kinds of TV and Movie content. We don't use the TV in the bedroom at all. Maybe twice in the past three years when I was sick.

I'll be the dissenting voice. I owned my own home for a couple years, and it was an awful experience. I'm back to renting, and couldn't be happier. And since I have zero debt outside of a truck payment, and no kids that can find me, I can afford a very nice apartment.

Granted, I'm a borderline minimalist, and I sound really deep when I steal the line from Fight Club that what you own ends up owning you.

Hi Tom,

Ah Ha! I stopped watching TV almost 40 years ago. I do try to watch the Daytona 500 and the Indy 500, but that is about it for my TV watching...much too much to do otherwise...

Happy viewing! ;)

Yes, best feeling in the world:like:
4 more payments on my mortgage. My Ranger will then be the only debt I have. I could retire from my municipal job now, but my pension would be reduced so I would be $1200 in the hole every month. I need to work until 1/4/2024 to get a full pension, that would give me 35 yrs of service.

That’s great! I have worked at my job 38 yrs & still can’t retire. No pension, just 401k (don’t want to spend it all on insurance). Still have about 8 yrs to go (Lord willing & the creek don’t rise!)!

If you've seen some of the homes I've been in over the years you'd chose to live in your truck. Have you seen some of the members beds on here? With the bed rug, lights and hard cover they look pretty comfy...lol

I feel very fortunate to have a pension, but will have to pay the full ride for the employer insurance - $600/mo. However, even at that price I would be an idiot not to keep it. Currently it is $200 deductible/$800 out-of-pocket per year for single coverage.
