Ok so I have gotten decent mileage on my Ranger so far. I was intrigued that there is such a wide variation in results. But I know we all drive differently and we all have different sets ups that impact what we have going. Finally there is also fuel.
So my parameters. I have a 2021 4x2 with about 8,000 miles on it. I have the Armordillo AR1 bumper guard, a leer soft top in the back, a third brake light mount off Etsy for my radio antenna, tow package, black accent package, and 6.6" Tyger Blade steel running boards.
In the bed a couple putco molle panels, a swing out tool box, 63qt travel fridge/freezer and associated equipment, probably 150lbs in the bed. Two boosters in the back and radian 3r carseats together add another 35lbs, work bag @30ishlbs, plus my big old butt @ 6'3 350lbs.
I typically fill up at our Spinx 87 E10 and average around 26.5mpg calculated by the truck computer.
I drive "defensively" so I keep that 3+ second spacing which allows me to engine brake or adjust cruise control rather than getting into the brakes which just converts gas to brake dust.
I keep off the pedal and have found that I can get good acceleration with shift points under 2.5k.
I use cruise as much as possible and also have a relatively flat drive.
With that said this last week I tried the 87 E0 in the ranger.
From the Spinx here in Summerville SC. Going from the gas station through 35, 45, 65 and 60 mph zones and 6 traffic lights on my commute to the airport. This mostly highway drive had me at 35mpg at my destination.
20miles doesn't tell you much but I usually will hit 29mpg doing this. My drive usually includes some 30/15/5/25 mph zones, but I started at the gas station.
The rest of the week was a combination of city, highway and 16 miles per day of Charleston stop and go rush hour traffic on I-26.
My average now is hovering between 29.5 and 30mpg with the 87E0. Average speed is 36 mph right now. The best I've ever seen. The worst I have ever had on 87E10 has been around 24.5 average.
I'm going to be putting the AFE intake on it and then try the same run again on 87E0.
Then again combined with the Ram scoop from Velossatech.
After this, runs with each grade of fuel. Each fill up is until the gas pump stops. I wait 30+ seconds then add more gas until it clicks off again.
