Ok so I have gotten decent mileage on my Ranger so far. I was intrigued that there is such a wide variation in results. But I know we all drive differently and we all have different sets ups that impact what we have going. Finally there is also fuel.

So my parameters. I have a 2021 4x2 with about 8,000 miles on it. I have the Armordillo AR1 bumper guard, a leer soft top in the back, a third brake light mount off Etsy for my radio antenna, tow package, black accent package, and 6.6" Tyger Blade steel running boards.

In the bed a couple putco molle panels, a swing out tool box, 63qt travel fridge/freezer and associated equipment, probably 150lbs in the bed. Two boosters in the back and radian 3r carseats together add another 35lbs, work bag @30ishlbs, plus my big old butt @ 6'3 350lbs.

I typically fill up at our Spinx 87 E10 and average around 26.5mpg calculated by the truck computer.

I drive "defensively" so I keep that 3+ second spacing which allows me to engine brake or adjust cruise control rather than getting into the brakes which just converts gas to brake dust.

I keep off the pedal and have found that I can get good acceleration with shift points under 2.5k.

I use cruise as much as possible and also have a relatively flat drive.

With that said this last week I tried the 87 E0 in the ranger.

From the Spinx here in Summerville SC. Going from the gas station through 35, 45, 65 and 60 mph zones and 6 traffic lights on my commute to the airport. This mostly highway drive had me at 35mpg at my destination.

20miles doesn't tell you much but I usually will hit 29mpg doing this. My drive usually includes some 30/15/5/25 mph zones, but I started at the gas station.

The rest of the week was a combination of city, highway and 16 miles per day of Charleston stop and go rush hour traffic on I-26.

My average now is hovering between 29.5 and 30mpg with the 87E0. Average speed is 36 mph right now. The best I've ever seen. The worst I have ever had on 87E10 has been around 24.5 average.

I'm going to be putting the AFE intake on it and then try the same run again on 87E0.

Then again combined with the Ram scoop from Velossatech.

After this, runs with each grade of fuel. Each fill up is until the gas pump stops. I wait 30+ seconds then add more gas until it clicks off again.

I don't mine deleting it or keeping it to myself. Lol.

Honestly doesn't hurt my feelings.
It's ment in fun, really. Many, many, many posts on mpg, and everyone relays data from the original poster...applys only to you as there are no two of us that are driving like you, now carrying the same load, same conditions, same weather, temps, wind speed, humidity, and 487 1/2 other variables that have an effect on mpg.
Heck, I average 273 3/4 mpg at times cause i hit BIG bumps on purpose to keep my Ranger airborn as much as possible....rest of the time I make sure I'm only going down hill so I can coast !!!
All ment in fun...

theres no where i could run slow enough speeds to ever dream of getting that mileage on any vehicle.
Everything for me is radical highway driving where to keep up....just keep up...you're brawling for lane space at 130kmh.
in town, 70-80kmh is the new 50kmh.
i consider fuel consumption a necessary evil and its just a wet dream in the back of my mind.

Lol ok got ya.l, no hard feelings good sir. I'm more curious how parts and fuel affect my economy as well. I'm sure it's all been done somewhere over the last 5 years

I just went to fit that AFE intake and I think that thing is pure Snake oil. I know some users her have dropped it in and gotten results but now I'm curious if that is from the part or a placebo affect to the driving after putting it in.

It doesn't seal up like the OEM, so instead of forcing it to suck cool air from the grill, at least at idle and low speed it's got potential to clear air from the engine bay. Cheaper plastic, doesn't line up well with factory cut out and nut plates. Has to be thicker because of the plastic so the OD may be bigger but the ID is questionable. Looking at the output side, the ID looks smaller than the OEM intake.

Oh yeah it's like NASCAR here. Everyone drives 5 feet off the other drivers bumper at 85+mph in a 65mph zone. We also have over 1000 highway fatalities in my state a year and this interstate gets it's daily wrecks which leads to worse rush our traffic.

If I do 75 vs 65 and cruise on my commute it saves me a whopping 2 minutes and change. After my accident I guess I've been more cautious. There are three lanes, I keep right and let them go, and adjust to keep my spacing and keep out of the brakes like the people that ride tailgates are having to do so they don't wreck. I used to do that myself lol I'm not innocent by any means.

The OE filter set up is already set up to only get air from the outside....it's already a "cold air system".....no under hood enters the air box/filter.
Maybe a few added HP, but computer and sensors are already set up to take advantage of all the air the factory set up is letting in.
Makes for a neat sound though.....your $$$ is probably better spent on a "tuner set up"

Have never done a tune tbh. I'm still.under warranty as well. But I have definitely already started the return on the AFE bigmouth intake, dropping it off to UPS in the AM. Also granted any little gain that could have given will be trashed by the AVS Aerocab most likely lol. We're not talking going from a C6 to a transmission with OD.

Doing the math right now 87E0 is costing 11.96 cents per mile in my mixed use vs 87E10 costing 11.28 cents per mile. So even though it's giving better gas mileage right now, it's actually less cost effective at current prices. Maybe if it was 100% highway this would change, but would most likely be only around a penny a mile.

I'd like to see how much gas using auto start stop actually saves. I always turn it off and am getting 22 - 24 mpg .

Have never used the stop/start....first thing that goes off as I always use tow/haul even for daily driving.
Use 89 for daily and 92/93 when we tow our trailer. Never have concerned myself with mpg or cost...it's a truck and I use it has a truck.
These are not "small" lightweight trucks....they weigh over 4000 lbs and are as big and heavy as Ford F-150's from 15 years ago.
Sorry if it sounds like I'm a "negative Nellie", but if I wanted good mileage, I wouldn't tow a 7000 lb travel trailer or load the bed up with "stuff".....

So you don't have roads that turn to the right?

Just a FYI: Last weekend I did a 700 mile run AFTER correcting my speedo for my summer tire size. What a difference in the mpg calculated by the truck. Previous best I could do was 18 mpg (15 in the city). On the trip, the calculator gave a overall avg of 25.6 mpg (95% interstate cruise control driving). Actual fill up gallons divided in to mileage gave 24.3 mpg.

During this trip I used Google Maps (and the on-boarded Nav, just to compare). Based on G Maps GPS speed reading, Cruise Control speed setting was about 3 mph over stated. So 75 mph was really 72 mph. This suggests that the 632 revs per mile of the 275/55R20 wheel/tire combo as calculated by RevsPM (revolutions per mile Rev-per-mile Calculator)=((5280*12)/(2r* π) is a little off using a calculated circumference of 100.25 inches (where Circumference = diameter * 3.14159; diameter = ((275 * .55) * 2) + 20) inches.
Need to do a rollout measurement of the wheel/tire to get the actual circumference and see what the calculation then shows. Guessing more like 637 RevsPM.
Stock wheel/tire on the Lariat were 265/60R18 for a RevsPM of 661.

Anyway, relying on the on-board calculator is only as good as the speedo calibration.

I have 4x2 Sport with the front airdam removed. Stock Tires. Soft bed cover. For me, city driving involves LOTS of stoplights that last about 5 minutes. With a soft foot and lots of space in front of me for defensive driving against these awful Florida drivers, I can get about 19-21 MPG. On highway trips, I will avg 24.5-27 MPG. I once did an MPG loop where I filled up on gas and drove 25 miles up and 25 miles back on one of our 'highways' at 11PM where I set the Cruise at 50mph and ended it exactly at 30MPG.

It's honestly about the same as my old 2004 Elantra so I'm happy. And way better than my dad's 07 F150 with a V8 which gets something like 14-20mpg in his driving.

I do not use ASS. My start up sequence involves putting my seatbelt on, turning the key, hitting the ASS button, and locking out the top three gears. ASS is supposed to help by about 1MPG according to Ford, which means it's useless to us owners (Or even detrimental considering extra wear or the AC not running for 7 seconds in Florida lol), but really helps them get their 'Fleet MPG Avg' up which allows them to get good credits with EPA.
