I'm okay with waiting on the traffic updates for when I have cell reception again (as long as the navigation is already running and can make adjustments on the fly when I have reception again).

With Waze, I can't even start navigation until I have a signal, which means I either have to catch it and do voice commands when the signal pops up again, or irritatingly stop and type in my request (when Android Auto is being annoying and not sending my voice command to Waze)
You might want to give Google maps a shot then. You can select the area you want to download for offline maps, I've downloaded my entire state and update it periodically. Between that and my states trail app I'm having good luck.

I'll play with it. I've only done one drive with the Sygic app so far and felt like I still needed to mess with some settings. I like the colors/symbols on the sygic maps, so that works well for me. But some features Sygic offers are only available with the paid version of the app, so I want to evaluate if I like it enough to want to spend the money.

I'll take a look at google maps, too.

I'd prefer if something free did the minimums well enough. of course that wouldn't really change considerations for something more specialized like this Garmin system.

Gotcha.

Haven't used Waze and was unfamiliar with their app.

FYI Google maps will do all that offline, with the exception of traffic updates.
Google owns Waze now. Been that way for 8 years or so. That’s one reason Google maps improved, they harvested all the crowdsourced data that made Waze as good as it is!

Did not know that. I've heard it discussed but had no idea it was owned by Google.

My oldest son and I were mappers way back when it first started. It was total crowdsource operation and was phenomenally successful. So much so that google took notice because they lost market share. In the end dollar signs got the developers to cave and it stayed the same but google owns it now. So they track you no matter what you use!

$500 for a wireless control box that either you need to buy another Garmin product to control or have to have your smart device tied up with their app open.

DAF IMO.

Six Shooter seems superior in every aspect (and I don't even own that product) period unless you have the money to blow on the whole array of a complete garmin setup.

Surprised they didn't just shut it down after buying it out.

I always leave my phone @ home if I'm planning on getting wet.
