Front Bump Stop?!

Where the heck is the bump stop for the front suspension? Do we even have one?
I just discovered a slight dip/tear in the metal at the high center point of my front driver wheel well, just below where the high voltage Fusebox sits inside the engine bay!! Looks like the ball joint of the upper control arm hit the wheel well. Shouldn’t the bump stop have prevented it, if there is one?

It is inside the shock accordion.

If you hit something hard enough to slam the upper ball joint into the fender liner, I suggest looking around for some other damage.

The bump stop should prevent it, but these trucks aren't desert runners, a hard enough impact will squash that bumpstop.

It’s on the strut. My truck is lowered about 3 inches and my control arms beat the shit out of the sheet metal there.

Sadly they changed the front suspension design halfway through the G5 model. Earlier G5's (Px1 2011- mid 2015) had a proper bump stop on a flange on the front chassis. When Ford brought out the Px2 revision in mid 2015 they eliminated it and just incorporated it into the strut.
A backward step if you ask me, as now the strut & strut mount has to take the whole load. My end of run 2015 Px1 still has the bump stop, but doesn't have the extra diagonal braces on the chassis, they added later. I would post a pic but I'm not home.

Maybe your strut has a slight leak and the rubber has gone soft?

Actually It was me …about two years ago in Dallas, the truck almost got tipped over to the left whet it got hit by a drunk in an Infinity Q35. Truck barely took any damage; dents on the passenger front door, rashes on the passenger front wheel with a blown tire. But the Tremor’s side-steps wrecked havoc to the Q35, almost ripped out both his driver’s side doors.

I had the dealership do a close inspection of the suspensions before doing any repairs. Didn’t discover any issues at that time; I guess somehow they missed this bump in the wheel well. I was pretty surprised how little damage the truck took, specially compared to the other car as it looked like someone took a blunt chainsaw to the entire length of that Q35’s drivers side!

I have the Icon tubular UCAs with the dust caps with Eibach 2.0 and mine have hit the fender as well. Granted I’m off roading mine but I was surprised too and there ain’t much of a bump stop on the strut at all.

Some of you may have seen it before. It’s interesting to see the suspension reactions each time they hit it with the loads.
