Damn I missed the Friday night celebration. I wonder how many dampers were ordered last night by people here while they were intoxicated. For those of you that did, don't worry I'm sure you can send them back for at least a partial refund. You may have to pay return postage though.

Sucks to be them then. That's one reason I stash my credit cards on nights when I plan to tie one on. Even though I know where the cards are it gives me a few minutes to think twice. I learned my lesson a long time ago when I started getting Amazon packages a few days later for all sorts of shit I never really wanted or needed. :)

Then it would probably be even worse if you were so drunk you bought parts for a vehicle you don't own and then think, "Well I'll just go ahead and order that car on Carvana to make it worth it." A week later there is a truck with a Ridgeline or Tacoma on it parked in front of your house.

That and waking up the next day foggy as hell, check your phone and see the drunk texts you sent to people. And reading responses like , "Mark why did you text me at 1 in the morning telling me you really don't like pinto beans in your chili?"

That's why I try to keep my phone out of reach also. :)

I've been winding down alcohol use for several years now - keeping track with adhesive stars on a wall calendar, along with a monthly ledger in a desk drawer. I felt the cognitive and physical decline begin many years earlier, attributing it to 'old age' until I ended up in an ER on the opposite side of the nation. The doc read off a litany of physical ailments, some I was unaware of. Had stopped seeing a PCP (primary care physician) years earlier as I relied on company physicals to monitor my health.

Since the 'perfect storm' had just taken place, I knew it was time to straighten up and fly right. Didn't happen right away, as I didn't begin to 'turn the corner' for another 3 years.

Forget AA and stopping 'cold turkey' (for me). I found 'organized religion' to be a detriment - I'm 'Religious Humanist' as a result. The handful of AA meetings I attended just prompted me to leave the room before they were concluded.

One has to become cognizant of the effects alcohol has on one's judgement, finances, family relationships, health, employment, etc. before one can reach the turning point.

I still drink, usually cocktails and the occasional beer type beverage, just on a declining frequency. One has to be at peace with one's self, one's past, accept 'what is' and work for more positive future outcomes. And above all, be happy with your Ford Ranger!

Margie and I were having cocktails on the patio, enjoying the 83° temps and sunshine, watching Tito devour a plate of kale followed by a cut up strawberry. Margie turns to me and says "Oh...I forgot to tell you but we are out of Smart Water for dinner....you will have to drink another beer" My response..."Well if I have too then I will have a beer with dinner after we finish the Beer:30 cocktail hour"

It is tough being retired.... :) :turkey:

Best,
Phil

I agree and I appreciate your honesty on the topic. There is a very fine line between for example, "I've worked my ass off the last few weeks and want to cut loose for a night," and "Another shitty day so I'm going to toss back a few for the 5th night in a row."

When it starts to impact your health, relationships, work or all of the above then it is indeed time to evaluate the situation. Some people can't drink at all without losing control, some can drink excessively and still appear to be functional, some binge drink, and some just like to get a buzz on occasionally. Alcoholism runs in my family so aside from my early 20's when I partied every chance I got like many 20 year olds do, I've always tried to be aware of where I stood. Fortunately it seems I'm good with getting a bit drunk from time to time for fun and the rest of the time when it comes to alcohol I could take it or leave it.
