just my negative addition to the warranty thing... the warranty is only as good as your dealer is honest. i have not come across a trustworthy ford dealer yet despite buying four brand new fords since 2016 alone and a long history of being a loyal ford customer family. that changed with my 5g ranger. i will never buy a new ford again or return to a dealer unless its to sell them something. I like the truck a lot. i have not had a long list of major problems. its been a good truck. only a few problems that could have been easy. but ford dealer service has been an absolute dry humping in every instance. so after my last round with them and ford customer(dont care)i decided to fix things myself or pay a trusted mechanic as trying to use the warranty or a ford dealer was just a wasted effort and drain of life.
install the tune your self, save the money. any person that has used a smartphone or tablet can do it with out trouble. your warranty will not be in question unless the dealer is being a typical ford dealer. in that case it would not matter either way who installed it. it is 100% up to the dealer to pick and choose and ford if they wanna pay the dealer. maybe if ford would pay the dealers instead of cutting the rate for warranty it would not hose the customer.

I purchased the Ford performance tune through blue oval industries and have an appointment with my local dealership later this week. When I talked to the dealership to schedule and see how much they charge to install, they had no idea what was involved with the install and just told me they charge $100/hr with 1 hr minimum.

So for those that have had their dealership do the install, how much of the install did you do before taking it to the dealership? Can I do everything besides the final upload? I would prefer not to pay a tech to install an air filter and download software, but I don't want them to get upset if I do some of the install myself.
My dealership worked with me and charged me a 1/2 hour. I showed them a printout of the ProCal Version and they also know my technical background so it was painless.

I tuned mine at 1k miles, though I do it for a living (which ASE doesn't go over). I don't particularly care about the warranty as I wouldn't let the mechanics at Ford work on it anyway. The only reason I waited 1k miles is to ensure everything was operating as expected.

I did go back to stock at one point to re-feel what it was like so that I can have a better view in driving characteristics. Couldn't stand the lugging, so I put it in sport mode all the time. I wanted my normal drive mode to be in between OEM normal and sport. After feeling it out again, I made some adjustment and went back to my tune. MPG went back up as well.

Thanks! This is what I would like to do as well. What did you have to give to the dealership with you doing a couple steps before bringing it in? Did you have to provide them with the login you used to register it?
Yeah pretty much logged in for them.

You don't care about warranty? So, when your trans blows before 100K like many people think it will, will you just eat the cost of a new trans and labor?

Hey, it is clear about the warranty, after 36/36 if Ford feels the Ford tune caused a failure, they can deny the claim, any Ford powertrain and Ford extended warranties included.

Just call the Ford Racing tech line and ask them, it's on the tune paperwork, that's what I did.

He did say "the tune is very conservative we have not seen any failures"

I don't charge myself labor... Yes, I'd probably buy a new transmission and install it myself.

In reality, I'm probably extending transmission life.

Honest dealers of any make are hard to find. My father was in charge of a warehouse operation that pretty much covered everything east of the Mississippi. He had a fleet of ford cars and trucks and after some experiences he issued a directive that each warehouse find a local mechanic and have them do all work. No work was to be done by dealer service dept. I h
Ave gotten lucky in that I have a dealer here in Texas that has always treated me right. Costs have been reasonable and I trust them With my shit. even when I bought from different local dealers I take my shit to them for any and all work.

the above being said there is no way I will ever buy another vehicle from any local dealer, including them. Sales depts around here suck ass. I will go three hours away to AbIlene where I had a great experience when we bought the edge
