I'll second that, with the APP you do not need the remote start "package" that is a standalone feature if you want it, and plan not to use the APP.

I had the 2018 TACO, and other than the weather and my NAV it did not do much. After buying it a month or so later they removed a lot of the built in APPS, like Pandora via a mandatory download on the unit.

I much prefer the SYNC3 and like that I can use Car Play with Waze for NAV on the head unit. Toyota rolled Android/Apple Car functionality out for the Camry I think, still not in the TACO today.

I ended up buying the Ranger in Lariat trim. After looking at an XLT, and a XL with Sport and FX4 packages installed no Satellite radio option. I felt the Lariat gave me a lot more of what I wanted. Like all LED headlights/day time running lights, fog lights and heated power folding mirrors with intergrade turn signal, and security approach lamps, leather heated seats and a lot more.

Yea I have heard nothing but good things about sync 3.
Not interested in satellite radio myself. I like to stream spotify through andriod auto.
Thanks for the info.

The 2020 Taco that just hit the lots a few weeks ago does have carplay and andriod now.
We do have a toyota and the infotainment system is garbage. Not the one with Android or carplay. We could not believe it did not come with them.

Really?! That's a nice add for the 2020 model TACO, I know a lot of guys over at Tacoma World wanted that. Wonder what the asking price is now? My 2018 TRD OR 6ft bed with DBL Cab was at $38,800 and the same 2019 TACO was $39,800 with the addition of one extra USB port and more paint colors. When I bought they had a $1,000 rebate.

They also added power seats and it can be raised now so you do not feel like you are on the floor, that was my biggest complaint.. Price only went up I think between 200.00 to 600.00 per model which isn't bad. I like the Taco I just never felt like I fit in one.

They didn't raise the roof, so there's a limit to how much you can raise the seat. I don't think it really fixed the comfort problem.

No and some people say it is hard to get in and out of if you did not lower the seat back down. So you have to raise it every-time you get in and lower every-time you get out. I had little head room to begin with.. Taco's change slowly, this is a big step for them. Still a good truck in my opinion.

Can you use the remote start, lock/unlock feature, and tire pressure monitoring features without an active SYNC Connect account? If so, how does your phone app communicate with the Ranger? I assume it is not blue tooth since the range would be very limited. If an active SYNC Connect account is required I assume there is a monthly fee associated with that?

No account required or monthly fees. The FordPass app works independently from the wifi hotspot. I cancelled all of that after the free trial was over and mine still works like a charm.

Wow, that is nice. But I am curious how the Ford Pass app is communicating with your Ranger? Presumably it is using cell towers to communicate? Does that mean Ford is picking up the cost for that? Seems like someone has to be paying for that...

It's a low volume communication. Probably the cost to Ford is near zero in return for giving att the monopoly for wifi.

So it doesn’t require any sort of data plan on the truck itself to use?

I would say that’s false. You can download the app on Google Play as well so it has to work on other phones!
