I decided to build a little test harness for my TBC today. Pretty easy, I used a RV wiring box from that forest place ($30), and wired up a bunch of LEDs I had from miscellaneous electronics projects. I used a 12 ohm high watt resistor on the brake line, with a blue led (and 2kohm resistor) in parallel. then wired a bunch of different color LEDs (all with 2kohm resistors in series) to the other wires in the box.
It works great, and tells me that all the trailer signals from the truck are working as they should. And after driving a bit the little dial was making happy colors too. Here I'm stopped with my foot on the brake so brakes (blue led), tail lights and running lights are all lit up. I didn't add a LED to check the trailer battery charge wire, will probably do so when I tidy up the box a little.
