Ford is offering the Maverick with a brake controller (with the max towing package - 4,000 LBS)... but they don't offer a controller for Rangers with a 7,500 LB capacity. I love my ranger but this makes absolutely no sense. I plan on wiring my own REDARC unit... but I would've been glad to pay for a factory option to avoid tearing apart my cab.

Let me know if you guys think this is absolute bull***t.

Yeah, it's sort of BS. At the very least it should have had a plug and play option, with prewired plugs under the dash. Plug in the controller and you're done. It really doesn't affect me since I don't tow trailers with brakes. If I ever do I'll probably get the Echo bluetooth controller.

BTW, look up my thread about wiring a strobe to the center brake light, it will show you how to get to the wire you need without ripping the cabin apart.

Tom,

I checked out your thread... tapping into the brake light wire at the BCM would definitely be much easier but I'm not exactly sure how it would be done (as far as taking apart the pin connector that is included with the ford redarc kit and splicing it into the yellow wire). I called my dealer and they weren't even sure how much labor would cost to instal the redarc...

The echo is a decent option that I might end up going with just to avoid the PITA of installing the redarc myself.

Hi Ted. From my understanding, and please don't take my word since I haven't installed a brake controller, but if I understand it, you splice into the center high brake light in the head liner. You can do the same thing using my method, it's the same wire.

You could use a T connector, known as a splice connector like this https://www.amazon.com/Leadrise-Sol...ocphy=9007555&hvtargid=pla-962885178897&psc=1 to pull the brake light connection from the wire I show. Some people, our resident Ford expert @P. A. Schilke being one of them, don't like that method and prefer something with more integrity. I won't speak for them.
