I'm planning to install a proportional brake controller. I'm not a wire guy but it looks to be within my capability. I've located the 4 brake controller wires in the truck (could they make them any shorter?). I plan to use an adapter harness between the controller and truck wires.

Can anyone tell me:
- The gauge of the truck wires so I can size some terminals/connectors and get the proper tools?
- A suggested way to make the connections? There seems to be a large difference between the 4 truck wires, especially the violet wire, and the wires in the adapter harness.
- The best way to remove the heat shrink on the end of the truck wires so I can maintain their length?
