Thank you Brad David and everyone else that posted their 285/70r17 Ranger pics and setups. I’ve got a 10 year old F150 and am going to trade it in for a 2020 Ranger. I want to do exactly what you did.

One question though...

I believe those stock wheels are 8” wide, correct? If I’m reading the wheel tables right isn’t that too small for 285’s? Obviously it works for you, but wasn’t sure if you had to check that first. Am I missing something?

Thanks again - this is a great thread!
if you go to nittos website and click on the ridge grappler specs it says 7.5-9.5

With the 285/70-17, are you still riding on the factory recommended pressure (inside driver's door)?

Most guys prolly dont re-gear, but really should as stock tires are around 30.5" dia and these are near 33" tall. So that is a relatively huge increase for a 4 cyl 2.3l engine and drivetrain to deal with. Also when you pull a wheel off, just look at those tiny little brakes. Think of those tiny brakes stopping a lot more mass with the 3" taller tires. Then forget about trying to tow anything. The little 4-banger and associated drivetrain will have been loaded up bigly with huge tires [mass] they have to get rolling and then brake for every stop. Basically upsets every design parameter of these little trucks.

IF these trucks had a beefy V6 turbocharged, and big brakes with at least 40% more stopping capacity, and 4.10 axle ratio diffs, then bigger tires no problem. These trucks were not designed for that. Simple harsh truth.
With the 10-speed transmission, I notice I'm usually one gear down from where I was before cruising around town, but I still get 21mpg highway (10th gear is effectively longer now) and the engine doesn't really work any harder to it. The rotating mass is obviously a little higher but it'll still outrun any stock Tacoma out there.

Also pulls a 6,500lb trailer just fine; first gear is still low enough to start it up a steep hill and having all of the gears between first and tenth (which it never gets to when towing) keep the "tiny" 4cyl right in its pulling range. You're not gonna pull a 5th wheel with it, but it's a Ranger, not an F-150.

OK I’ll go... fourth?
Confirming what others have said - 1/4” wheel spacer needed to fit the magnetic 17”s. Very happy with the Ridge Grappler so far.

Did you have to use the spacers to fit that size tire on, with the lift or level that you have?

You need the 1/4" spacer up front to clear a 285 width tire, otherwise it rubs the steering knuckle. The lift is irrelevant to the spacer

Thank you. Is that the size of spacer/tire combo you're running on your truck in your profile pic?

Just got my lift, but it's not installed yet. Debating on going 265 with a taller sidewalk or stick with the wider tires and spacer combination now that I know its needed.

These magnetic wheels would be perfect with a better offset. Haha

I'm running a 1.5" spacer all around, makes the clearance up front a lot tighter but dang is she good lookin'! ? a 1/4" spacer looks almost factory, you can barely tell.

I am running a 285/70/17 tire though. The spacers I bought are like $200, and you can get them in 3/4", 1", or 1.5", the small 1/4" ones are way cheaper and you only need two of them.

Do you know where to buy the 1/4" spacer or which 1/4" spacer you are using? I am struggling to find any 1" wheel spacers without a 2 month lead time, so I may have to just go with the 1/4" spacer. Curious if yours is hub centric. Can't find any of those yet either.

I ended up buying 1.25" spacers. Love the look.

Thanks for all the help from this post and other posts on this forum. They've been really helpful.

Thats not true. As you go higher in lift the less likely you are to have rubbing issues with the crash bars. The crash bars line up with a higher portion of the tire thus the tire becomes further from the crashbar.
Hi Matt,

UM...the issue was rubbing on the steering knuckle...we call it a front spindle...nothing to do with the crash bars...

I'm having a BDS 3.5" lift, UCA's, Fox shocks(rear) and low profile crash bars installed as we speak. Putting Cooper STT Pro's, 285/70-17 on the stock magnetic wheels as well. Hoping I don't need spacers.
Assuming you have the low profile crash bars on do you have pictures of how much clearance there is and about how much space from the tire to crash bar? I'm actually thinking of going odd ball here and getting 285/75-17's and found out the BFG's are a 33.9 in that size. If the clearance will work(with appropriate wheel or wheel spacer) then I will shoot for it.

Hey Frenchy did you ever end up running the 285/75-17s? I'm looking at running the same thing, but can't seem to find much info from people who have run that size.

Thanks for the reply--I'll keep trying to hunt down info, then. It seems 285/70/17 or similar is the threshold tire size with a roughly 3 inch lift/level (Icon, Fox, OME, Rangerlifts), because I can't seem to find many people above that tire size without significantly more work done. I like the thought of running a ~34" tire, but would definitely prefer avoiding an expensive mistake...haha
