Some models (including my own) have pre-collision assist, along with normal cruise control. I'm looking around trying to determine if it's possible to enable adaptive cruise control using Forscan.

1. Hardware requirements -- it looks to me that the pre-collision assist uses a behind the grille radar module, I would think that they would use the same radar module for both pre-collision and ACC. Does anyone know if this is the case?

2. Forscan procedure to change normal cruise control to adaptive -- do we know if anyone has done this previously and if it is documented some where?

Thanks!

I think pre-colilsion is done with the camera, or maybe a combination of the camera and ACC sensor. ACC is definitely controlled via the sensor in the lower grille.

ACC is controlled via the list bumper sensor and pre-collision assist is done via the camera in the windshield. I highly doubt that you could buy the sensor and have it activated via ForScan.

So, to clarify:
1. Nope, definately not the case
2. Haven't heard of that yet.

Would be kind of cool if you could add it after the fact, turn it on and it just works though.

You are correct, other member's who's Rangers do not have ACC have been able to move their front license plate lower on the bumper with no issues concerning the pre-collision system.
I wanted to do the same, but my Lariat is equipped with ACC, this move would block the sensor totally.

To add to some of this info, on vehicles without adaptive cruise control Pre-Collision Assist is purely camera based. Vehicles equipped with ACC have the radar sensor for the ACC, and pre-collision is leveraging both the camera and the radar sensor for recognizing imminent collisions.
