If nothing obvious, I believe I would wipe/clean/degrease as best I could and give it a little time like you said... not sure if degreaser takes the dye off ? but the cleaner the better to see if it's still leaking...
My Rock auto just got here as I type so I'm gonna give mine a good looky while I'm in there ... (air filter , and cabin filter and oil change, they had the air filter at half the price I see around here )
Adding to the magnet collection! Once the sun goes down ill get that UV light out again. Might pop out more and in the dark. Next step is to find a cleaner to get rid of the god awful degreaser smell.

I bet I made a mess on the egr tube, or maybe there is a tiny oil leak somewhere. My egr wasn’t working right the last few months, thought it could be a few things like bad winter gas. But I got a code for the DFPE and replaced. So now my egr is fictional and it runs great. Might have been the first time in a long time that pipe got hot enough to burn off the crud. I hate being anal with vehicle maintenance. I over analyze it all.

thanks everyone for commenting I will keep it updated.

I keep my engine and undercarriage as clean as possible, makes anything bad stand out pretty good ... except the 10R80 of course , it looks deceivingly good from underneath , but we all know the horrible truth that lies within... (yes, a little overly dramatic at the end ? but I'm getting ready to plead my case to Ford on why I deserve a new one, so , I'm practicing my drama...)

Let me know, I will share my elevator speech with you. Mine was out of warranty too!

The egr tube is behind the engine. Hard to keep it clean lol. Who knows how long it wasn’t cycling. Typing my last reply just solved this I think.

Yes the diesel one is right behind the engine too, almost impossible to get to, sandwiched between the back end of the head and the firewall. Why they couldn't put such a fragile bit of gear somewhere easier to reach I don't know.

I think valve overlap is a better solution. Other companies do that and they can meet NOx requirements. Just not a fan of new cars and their complications anymore. Its sort of ruining my love of engines.
Agree, the American Sci Fi author Robert Heinlein said it best in his novel "Space Family Stone" when describing the stages of a technology. Internal combustion engines are now definitely well into second stage technology.

“Every technology goes through three stages: first a crudely simple and quite unsatisfactory gadget; second, an enormously complicated group of gadgets designed to overcome the shortcomings of the original and achieving thereby somewhat satisfactory performance through extremely complex compromise; third, a final stage of smooth simplicity and efficient performance based on correct understanding of natural laws and proper design therefrom.”

I'm in warranty , 2021 with 18000 miles and the Ford extended , it's just not quite "bad enough " to be replaced , or so they have been saying...

Well you have plenty of time to break it then. Mine feels amazing with the new updated one. Relatively smooth. Occasionally clunky but not todays Michael J Fox driving a stick clunky. Because thats what the original one felt like.
