The local EPA nerd showed up. Don't leave your hood open at a trail head he'll report you.
I'm still feeling bad for that pet squirrel... and his family. He got reported, and you see what happened!

Like they're going to do spot checks on your emissions system and arrest you if it's modified ?

Only places I'm aware of that do crap like what we're talking about is Cali cause that state is out of control, my home state of NJ I left 20 years ago and they don't do spot checks like Cali they just do state inspections I believe yearly.

Both controlled for years by the same ruling class, ironically. Colorado does emissions testing but it's private and it's just pass/fail you're not getting cited on the spot if the guy realizes you have modified exhaust ?

Speaking of which, I was messing around the other day. There's a windows program called OBDwiz I believe I grabbed for plugging in the wife's Jeep and mine when I need to pull codes, run diagnostics and such. It was listed alongside Forscan as an alternative.

Well, it also had about a $90 "advanced" package you could download after registration and activation of your license for pulling other stuff normally not available. I figured what the hey. I think I can actually look at Jeep live emissions with it on hers and run an emissions test on her Renegade with it ?

Can't do it on old faithful, the Grand Cherokee it's too old. However newer vehicles they run the emissions tests right through the OBD port and this looks like it may allow you to do it. Looks to show fuel mixture etc. might be worth grabbing for the Ford as well for guys running afoul of the law with their exhaust system ??‍♂

Check ahead of time.

For 2024 colorado adopted California carb requirements, making a no of after market mods illegal to be installed or even sold. Emissions testing is a county decision, I think it's mainly required in front range counties, we don't have it on the western slope. When I lived in Denver emissions testing checked a bunch of stuff cats, gas caps, cel, noticeable safety issues, pcv, etc besides the tailpipe test. I think a cel passes if it's caused by a minor fuel system vacuum leak, that was changed because it can cost hundreds or more to fix and its a common problem.

In NC there use to be emissions testing through OBD2 in more counties, my county is not longer one of them, but part of the annual inspection, even though safety only, includes a visual of emissions components. On my RS I've had to point to the cat on the down pipe because the inspector thought it was removed.

Also, I'm not reporting people, I'm not an ass, rather I'm making sure they are educated about mods and go in fully aware of possible consequences if they move or restrictions in their area change. I only report safety issues, and normally only if they driver is an ass when I point out the issue to them first.

So half the drivers in the Charlotte area I assume? Lived out that was for a few years. The 77/485 area was a disaster of drivers at rush hour. Probably the worst place to know how to drive ever.

Shoot, here in south Louisiana, it's $20 for 2-year sticker. If your lights, horn, and wipers work you are good to go. Probably one of the reasons we have worst roads in US.

Like a lot of parts filed as "emissions" components, it's not legal to bypass or remove it if the vehicle came with it from the factory. The law doesn't have a "well a nearly same engine in that car doesn't have it some I can remove it" allowance. And while the cars may not have one, the truck may due to different tuning, or they feel when used for towing having it was more beneficial (at least from emissions POV).
Is it a “LAW” ?
Or a “REGULATION “ ?

Regulation most likely because they fine people or crush their cars. Never seen an article about people going to jail.

EGR is a "Good Thing ©". It cools max combustion temps. Why would you want to delete it?

Don't even try to outsmart engineers who are much more astute that you.

It also increases mpgs slightly as it takes up combustion space. There are many benefits. Just curious really. Wont delete it but would like a bullet proof design from the aftermarket like the powerstrokes got. One and done concept.
