We had a wet spot investigated yesterday, the tech said our drainfield is not taking water. F***k! I have no idea where to go from here. The house was built in 1962, all lines leading to the drainfield were replaced in 2015. We have a big-ass magnolia that I am sure isn't helping matters. The tech had to cut three roots to access the distribution box.

We had to put in a second leach field a few years ago. We are in clay, so they aren’t as effective. We have valves so that as one field gets saturated, I can switch back to the other after it’s had a few years to recover. Alternating every 3-5 years has worked for us so far…………

Unless there is a clog or break that can be fixed easily. But it sounds like the ground is no longer absorbing the water. You can extend the field if the existing one is good.

See, everyone thought that Taco Tuesday was so cool ....
Ever since the work done in 2015, we stopped using the so-called flushable wipes. We also got a bidet adaptor for our toilet, which greatly reduces how much paper you need.

Just dig it up and make a new one. Those things have 5-25y lifetime depending on the soil.

For the old soil, set a side or compost for 2 years (removes human pathogen risk) and use for garden. Remember to mix well with normal soil as this would be loaded with nutrients.

I had a problem with mine we snaked it out from the toilet to the septic tank and even the vent pipe from the top of the roof everything was clear, and I called the people to pump out my septic tank. The septic tank was partly full. we uncovered the pipe from the house and found that it had settled and was going uphill so the septic tank people took a backhoe dug it down and replaced it from the 4 inch to a 6 inch pipe. Problem solved.
