Trying to figure out if there's a way to make Android auto open up my apps for me. I only use google maps and spotify. If it's not open on my phone the head unit says "it's not working right" or something along those lines. The fix right now is go to my phone and open up the apps. Just wondering if there's a way around this or something I'm missing. Also how do I know if I have factory nav?

You will have a Nav button on the bottom of the screen (without a phone plugged in). It will be in line with the Audio, Climate, etc buttons.

For you other concerns, you should not need to start any apps on your phone. You only need to plug the phone in, then allow a few seconds for AA to start up on both the phone and head unit. It sounds like you may be missing something. What phone and Android version are your using?

Android version 9 on an Alcatel. I don't see the maps button on the main screen, just an apps button that I find useless. When I plug in the phone to the USB it opens AA but not spotify or maps. Any suggestions?

It's a compatibility issue with your phone/AA. I get this problem once in a while with my galaxy S20. I have to unplug the phone, open the app, plug the phone back in. This never happened with my previous phone (Pixel 2).

Agree with SteamiestOyster. Your issues are likely phone related. I have a pixel 3A and AA is nearly perfect.

Thanks for the responses. I guess I'll have to look into a cheap and more compatible phone when mine finally kicks the bucket. Until then I'll see if there's any updates or look into the AA website to see if there are any solutions.

When you open AA don't you get a screen with the AA apps on it? You get an AA button on the bottom of the screen but the rest show up on the screen after you press the AA button.

Yes I get the pop up on the bottom of the main sync screen when I plug in my phone. I press that and it takes me to the android auto main screen which works fine but where I run into trouble is trying to open spotify or maps. If those apps are not open on my phone it gives me a little message saying it's not working. I'll take pics. To fix I have to open the app on my phone, go back to the AA main screen and open the app again.
