The bed was just open. That's one of the reasons I went with decked. on my F150 that I traded, I had a soft tonneau that cost about $750. Stuff was flying around everywhere and was a pain getting stuff at front of truck, so when I got the ranger, i thought I drop an extra $400 to get this. I DO like it, but was surprised how much space you lose. Also, really annoying stuff like having to unscrew the wheels to remove a drawer.

BUT it is nice to get all the drawer space and keep a 2000lb platform. If' I'd known I was buying a topper, I would have built something myself, but needed something waterproof If I wasn't planning on getting tonneau cover too.

We put in the D rings. Had issues identifying bolt size, mainly due to bed liner over spray. Turned out better than expected. Top holes by cab used M8x20. Top holes on tailgate end, used M6x20. Painted with spray can bedliner. No rattles heard when driving.

@Legalkill how are these D rings holding up, especially the ones near the tailgate using the swing box holes?

The owners manual gives a load rating for the 6 (or4) standard tie down points but nothing for these rear holes. I don’t particularly want to rip the D ring out of the threads the first time I carry a load

Ours are holding up well and they are the only tie downs we use. Granted we are generally only Home DIY with a couple of rental renovations and light hauls, some furniture maybe here and there. I never felt like I over ratcheted for the hooks, more so too tight for whatever we were holding down.

I have a decked. I have a deezee headache rack in route. to protect my rear window from the inevitable sliding cargo . I can access the rear existing tie downs with tailgate down, you can still hook a ratchet strap to it, and the webbing will fit between the decked top and the bed no problem.

As the previous post mentioned is to use some flat webbing material. Go from the lower tie down points before installing the Deck system. Front and back.
The wasted space near the sides is even worse on the Scab Decked system. The open space is all covered up in front of the wheel wells.
