I can confirm that ordering for 2022 is moving forward. We received a new allocation cycle for the month of February and Ranger is on there. So this was false information.
Good to hear from a reliable source. Things some dealers say should be taken with a grain of salt.

chip companies run at 90% of capacity. so at max if they can crank out 100 chips a month , they are already making 90. with down time etc, lets say they hit 95. How many months will it take to make an extra 200 chips?

2 years.

combine that with all sorts of secondary supply chain shortages shipping delays etc and it hasn't gotten worse, but is being felt in all segments.

I was quoted 8 week lead time on jan 5th.

on jan 18th that had stretched to 18 week lead time. On a time critical must have part or else I shut down a major manufacturer. They literally have to stop production in with out that item. and it isn't even a part for them to manufacture with. it is an air filter for their spray booths. So they can paint the parts they build.

That is how bad it is. you can plan for long lead times. it is done daily. however it is the ever shifting lead times that are a killer.

Left-handed defense from a former car salesman:
While the salesperson could have been in Hurry-don't be-late mode, it was hard enough to keep up with all the changing incentives, balance out dates, msrp increases yada yada in the best of times. Now with a global pandemic malingering, shortages and delays are sporadically popping up. A sales person may not be aware of all the changes to the changes, but his Sales Manager or General Manager is. Large and some medium-size dealerships often have a dedicated product & inventory guru to keep track of the constantly changing programs, model-by-model allocation, and production constraints. I was the New-Nerd at one store. My goal was to keep the New lot full with 250 "gotta buy now" vehicles that don't sit more than 30 days (not weeks!) on the lot. Living on Days To Turn .

Just another day in paradise:
"On Thursday, January 27th, EcoSport, Edge, Escape and Ranger orders will not be selected for scheduling.
22MY Edge – The dressing period for Edge orders has been extended through Wednesday February 2. Scheduling will begin again on Thursday, February 3. Edge orders with Adaptive Cruise may take longer to schedule. This feature is standard on Titanium Lux 301A, ST High Package 401A, and is included in the optional Ford Co-Pilot360™ Assist (67D).
22MY Explorer - Retail orders only will be selected for scheduling. Explorer ST (401A) with the Premium Technology Package (65P) will not be selected for scheduling.
OTD Vehicle Line Scheduling – For OTD vehicle lines, the Centralized Field Order Scheduling Team (CFOS) does not have any line of sight of what will be scheduling each week and the delivery timing of these vehicle lines".

Happy to be out of the biz now, but I think it will get better for all involved. The OEMs are moving back to a more vertically integrated model and away from just-in-time logistics and depending on vendors for everything, especially with the coming EVs. Inventory ordering will become much more simplified (read restricted) and customers who want, or don't want certain options will be ordering out their vehicles, much like Europe; half to 2/3 of all new vehicles sold there are customer ordered.

I was able to place an order on Friday, the 28th. Now it's pretty basic - XL Supercab 4X2 with tow package. I only have the order confirmation and no build date yet.

However ... the dealer asked if it was okay to delete the Auto Start/Stop as that would slow down the delivery date. That saves them a chip and removed a whopping $50 from my order!

Clearly the chip issue is on-going but I hope they don't shut down Ranger orders anytime soon for others (I had wanted a Maverick but was too late Lat Tuesday - no 4K tow allowed).

But, I'm glad it worked out this way. The six foot bed and 7.500 pound tow rating will make up for the no-frills of this basic build.

Just recently ordered a Tremor. Then I saw they we offering to delete the auto s/s and I was excited till I saw it didn't apply to the Tremor pkg . I don't care for the feature and wanted to speed up my order potentially.
