Is it true that "damper owners" have tailgate parties to watch Dr. Phil on a big screen? Afterward they sit around and discuss their feelings.

All these damper threads makes me laugh.

Just my opinion here. But the dampers are just to make your wallets lighter.

I'm disabled and have bad arthritis and fibromyalgia and I don't have any problems opening or closing the light weight aluminum tailgate without a damper.

Heck I can still open and close a Deuce 1/2 tailgate without assistance. And those are far from being light.

It's just nice not hearing the thud and showing Ford hey look what we did without needing microchips!

I should probably post this in the "what did you do WITH your Ranger today" thread it just wouldn't be the same...

I went to Lowes today. There I was, arms full of goods... I anxiously reached for the curvaceous tailgate handle and gave it a gentle tug... I watched with anticipation as it descend slowly and sensually offering its flat tailgate to my heavy load (of boxes of ceramic floor tile and a bag of grout).

That's exactly why I got one. I unplugged the power tailgate lock for the same reason.

That's right, and more in fact, once a damper is installed you can never leave, never. If you try to remove it and return to pre-damper life, the damper people will know, and will send out damper enforcers. You and your truck ( with damper) will disappear!
Tell me about it, mine “fell off” while Dave was on vacation… the events that followed were horrific… it gave me nightmares… the horror.. the horror..

I'm guessing most damper people need hood struts on the other end as a result.
It's the logical progression of the disease. Once the biceps and deltoids are sufficiently atrophied from long term damper abuse, it becomes increasingly difficult to raise the hood without the assistance of high pressure nitrogen.

Can neither prove or disprove that possibility categorically, but highly likely!

This is how it begins. You see folks how easy it is to get seduced by the damper dark side!

You sir are my hero!
However the tailgate on the Aus model is steel, not alloy, and whilst immensely strong it is bloody heavy, and hard to undo single handed, particularly if wet and slippery. It probably should have left the factory with a damper standard. - I can't believe just said that.

Dang, good therapy, so I’ve heard says to face your demons and overcome them.

So IF my damper “falls off “ again should I just let the damper army have it’s way or embrace the damperless way of life? I’m not sure I can keep up the illusion of tailgate providence with the ladies….

Is there a way I can disable the tailgate damper without removing it? You know a switch or something.. only to be rarely used.

It would be nice to show off to the ladies that I can handle a tailgate without the need for a damper..

Hey you all know when that moment arrives, I just want to be ready!!
Guys, relax, it won't be long until we will all be driving "Lightening" Rangers, equipped, like the high-end "Lightening" 150, with electric tailgate-lowering and raising technology. Then we can all "show off to the ladies" that we can push a button with the best of them...

Renounce the great damper illusion, you can do it on your own, you are stronger than you think.

That's a tough question to answer generically. Call the damper support line 1-800-DAMPER to help you sort through the the options.
