I am guessing they are trying to find a way to ensure that you won't drive the same vehicle for 300,000+ miles. At least Ford didn't put their oil pump belt in the back of the engine like GM did with the 3.0 Duramax....
Gm is having so many problems with their v8s id actually go the 4 cylinder route on those. Cannot believe I wrote that. Gm v8s use to be so good. I'd go 2.7 on the ford. You roll the dice no matter what you buy. I live in the rust belt so would go f150 to get aluminum body.
