I know this is a bit of an older thread but I think it was a really good one (aside from the auto part store banter). I was determined to buy colored lug nuts but after reading all of this I held off. I never knew the issues associated with aftermarket lug nuts. Thank you P. A. Schilke!

But I have been doing some research on lug nuts for the Ford Ranger. What I found is that the lug nuts for the Ranger is compatible with the Escape/Fusion/Focus/Fiesta from 2012-2019. With that in mind I came across these:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/20-12x1-5-...587070?hash=item5d92aa363e:g:g4sAAOSwMqVdhS99

They’re made by White Night and they claim it only fits OEM wheels from these vehicles. From appearance they look very similar to the OEM nuts. I have zero experience with lug nuts so I’m curious what everyone’s take would be? Is White Night any good? At $45 for 20 nuts it would be a little pricey having to buy two sets. But i haven’t found anything that is specifically for OEM wheels.

Anyhow, the stock lug nuts aren’t that bad. So I’m in no rush.
Thanks,
Mike

I'm very happy with the locking the black locking lugs from Panda. No issues at all.

Actually I’m really curious if anybody has had issues with aftermarket lug nuts? Sounds like the Panda lug nuts work well.

What do we think about these? I put in 2015 Ford Escape as others have said they are the same fit.

They seem to be wider than the ones by Panda that may cover the bare metal that Protomeister was experiencing.

These state they are 0.90". I just went out and the stock nuts seem to be right about 1" at their widest. Anyone know how wide the Panda nuts are?

Ok, so interesting experience so far. I ordered the black lug nuts through Panda and it's the McGard set, with a wheel lock (bonus, I've used them before and liked them).

First, the lug nuts absolutely scratch up from the first installation. That was disappointing, but understandable.

Second, though - the lug nuts I was sent leave quite the gap in the hole for the lug bolt. Enough that it's concerned me and I'm returning the lug nuts. And beyond my non-expert safety concerns, I also was going for the blacked-out look, so it didn't make sense to then leave a plain steel/metal looking ring around each lug nut. Bleh.

I contacted McGard and they gave me a different set of part numbers for the Ranger. And those would also be too narrow.

Note in the pics that the OEM lug nuts have a large flange & cone vs. the much smaller footprint of the McGard lug nuts....

Not sure what I'm going to do now - for the short while I had the black lug nuts on, I thought it looked great and could imagine how awesome it'd be if it complete covered the original lug nuts' spot.

Thoughts?

Just came across this thread. I replaced the OEM chrome lug nuts on my 2019 Lariat wheels with black ones purchased from Panda Motoworks last year. McGard Premium lug nuts had the correct thread and cone angle as the OEM. I confirmed before installing them.

After reading this thread, I went out to my truck to examine the lug nut installation to the wheel. I didn't like what I was seeing. Unfortunately, I did not take photos. I decided to remove a sample and attached is a photo of several of the removed lug nuts and the "wear" patterns on the cone surface. The locking lug nuts exhibited the worst condition of the interface between the lug nut cone and wheel cone surface. Subsequently, I removed the McGard and re-installed the OEM chrome lug nuts.

I had about 15,000 miles on the wheels since installation of the McGard black lug nuts with no issues. The wheels had been rotated 3 times to date. That said, from an engineering standpoint, based on the "wear" marks, I was not comfortable with keeping the black nuts installed.

As an FYI, I had a similar less than optimum experience with aftermarket lug nuts on my 2019 Miata. I had installed black lug nuts and subsequently re-installed the Mazda OEM lug nuts.

Cheers

Due to all the issues and good advice I'm just gonna hold off on the black lug nuts until the correct fitment is developed! :) As much as I think it would look good I prefer NOT to see a wheel pass me by on the highway..
Super wrap them
