I had a 1991 F-150 Lariat 4X4 with the 300 six. It was the smoothest running engine I've owned and loaded with torque. Unfortunately, it also loved gasoline!
Indeed, I had an Uncle who was a factory rep for Motorola back in the sixties in St. Louis, MO.
He told me of a '66 Ford Custom (the really stripped model) 2 door sedan with a 240 and a "3 on the tree" that he picked up brand new.
After 5 years he had driven that Ford a gadzillion amount of miles, he said it was the most reliable, well-machined car he ever owned.
He replaced it with a '72 Vega wagon...he described that car as a "race between the body and engine as to which one would self destruct first"
It maybe unbelievable but the 300 six got better gas mileage than the 302 v8
If I'm not mistaken this venerable motor is still used in industrial applications, the Chevy 292 was another noteworthy engine. Ditto for the Slant-Six, although this engine was prone to stalling when driving through deep puddles because of it's distributor's location. Oh, and it's starter noise, the famous Chrysler starter, aka the "Highland Hummingbird"...

Lol, I did toy with the idea of yanking the 200 and installing a 300 6 cyl. that I had gone through for my Dad's '83 F-150, but my cousin borrowed the truck and completely wrecked it. If I remember correctly, the 300 cranked out more torque than a bone stock 302, that motor is still on my top 5 list of the best engines produced by anyone. I also wanted to run a Ford top-loader 4 speed with the 300, that idea led to the rear end, there was no way the puny stock 3rd. member would hold up. As it turns out, my dreams turned out to be way too much work so I ran the 200 till it died, which it did in 1986 when it sucked a valve, the replacement victim was an '81 Honda Civic Wagon, that's an episode for another time...
Looking back, my 2020 S/Cab is sure going to have an easy life, now that my young and much more dumb days are way past.
The Ford 300c.i straight six is, quite possibly, the best gas engine ever available in a truck.

That was an awesone engine. Couldbt kill em either. I had one in a 1978 pickup that I converted into a tow truck. Beat the hell outta that truck, but the engine never blinked

Lotta guys swore by the 360 "FE" V8 as well, if I remember correctly that engine was only offered in trucks.
But yes, the 240 and 300 "Big Six" (as Ford called them) were way more stout than they needed to be, especially when they installed them in cars.
The parts department at the dealership I used to work for bought 4 brand new early 80's F 150's as delivery trucks, all were basic, no frills 4x2's longbeds, all automatics. Two of them had 300's, the other 2 had 302's, we staged tug of wars between the two after work. The 300's consistently won the pulls, while the poor 302's limped away like a dog with it's tail between it's legs...

The engines were so powerful and durable that the air line I was with back in the 70s and 80s bought them by the trailer load for all their ground equipment. Every van, tug, pickup, etc. had a Ford 300 in it.

What happened to the Electronic Rear Differential lock? I think it's in the new FX2 package but I don't want that. That leaves all 2wd trucks without the lock? One wheel spinning on a ramp pulling out the boat?

Available as a standalone option for $420.

Yes, thanks, just saw it on a sticker on a 2020 Lariat. Then went back to Ford build and found it under Exterior items.

Dealer told me it was not an option anymore.

I actually had a weird experience with this option when I was shopping. I didn't want much in the way of options, so I was shopping XLs, but I definitely wanted either 4x4 or a locking differential. Searching dealership websites, I could only find a few (I think 3) XLs with the locking diff option within 100 miles of home. By coincidence, my search coincided with my dad stopping by his Ford dealership in Arizona for some touchup paint. As long as he was there, he checked out their Rangers, and they had 3 XLs with locking diffs at that one (small) dealership.

My sales guy (who was otherwise quite knowledgeable) was completely unaware of it being a standalone option until I brought it up and showed him the line in the order guide. He said he was unable to use it as a search parameter for searching inventory at surrounding dealerships, which he said usually indicates an option that is available on custom orders, but not dealer stock orders. That would certainly explain why there was such a shortage of them around me, but I looked up the window stickers for the three at the dealership in Arizona, and all three were dealer stock.

At the time I figured that maybe Ford has regional restrictions on what options could be ordered by dealerships (For example, I believe in Canada the Ranger is not available as RWD), and thus a locking diff is not available to dealers in the flatlands of the midwest. However, after reading your comment, assuming your dealer was correct, maybe what he meant is that it is no longer an option for dealer stock. Thus, dealers were able to order it as an option on their 2019s, but since I was looking at them after the release of the 2020, the inability for dealers to add the locking diff to their new orders meant that they couldn't search for it even on the 2019 inventory.

My salesman told me the same thing. Had to get the FX2 package to get locking diff. Went & ordered the FX2 so i could get a more aggresive tire also.

I did find a 2wd 2020 Lariat with the locker despite the dealer, as you also stated as being possible, believing that it was only for custom orders.

My next step was to look at the master list of options for verification but never did that. I’m sure it’s there.

I didn’t want the FX2 package. Was almost tempted to wait for 2021 until I found the truth.

I think there is someone on this Forum that ordered his truck assuming the Locker was included only to find out it wasn’t! Not a good time to find out and is not a dealer add on.

Another dealer told me that the Electronic Lock Differential was included on all 2wd trucks even though not listed on window sticker. Told him no and that it was a $420 option.

Question---test drove an XL today and liked the vinyl floor. Easier to vacuum. Seems like all vehicles these days have Velcro like carpet. Difficult to vacuum and get clean. Could I order vinyl instead of carpet on an XLT? If not, then is vinyl under the carpet on the XLT? Doubt it.

When I special ordered my 2020 Lariat 4x2 last August, it was possible to order the rear locker without including the FX-2 package, however I did want the package, which includes the locking diff.

My front seat covers will be replaced soon through Ford's Custome Care. Hopefully they will be better and the dealer can install them correctly. I hope Ford is working with the supplier to correct this issue. I asked Ford's Customer Care if I could have the 2019 covers with the Ranger logo installed instead of the 2020 seat covers and was told that cannot happen.
Will this be a recall item or just customer complaints through CC and the dealership??
Who was your source?

Interesting, thanks for the info. I’m sure I’ll notice it now that I’ll be looking for it!
Aha, validation. I've read so nothing about the driveshaft needing adjustment (hello Ford?) and others remarking it went away when they switched to Accel performance coils. I interpreted some comments on custom tuning resolving some transmission behaviors and since I perceive some of those and wasn't willing to just accept it, I will be watching out for a response from Ford.
