Spending a couple of months in the south IOT escape some the continued snow of WY and today priced a Clear Bra for the front of the truck. Previously had the front end of a previously owned Volvo XC90 covered for about $500 so I was in shock when quoted a price of $1,700 for the front of the truck.

Has any one had recent experience with a similar protective covering? Am I just out of date and that cost is correct, or is the $1,700 out of line?

Sounds out of line to me, unless it covers absolutely everything. I had the front edge of the hood and the part between the fenders below the grille and above the bumper all done for $350CAD.

Yea, they are trying to rip you off. I had Suntek installed at Tint World for about $600. Included front of hood back about 16”, front of fenders aligned with hood, painted panel between grille and bumper. I have the chrome package so no film on the bumper or panel under the bumper.

It all depends on how much coverage they are giving you for $1700. If they are covering the entire front bumper, full fenders, full hood, painted parts of the grille, etc, then 1700 is not out of line. If they're just doing the front portion of the hood and fenders and part of the front bumper, then yes they are way out of line. Find someone local to you who installs Xpel paint protection film. Xpel is the best there is.

I was curious on what it would cost to do a FULL PPF on my Ranger and got an estimate from Ghost Shield for $5,500

The coverage was for all the painted surfaces (do not have the chrome pkg) about 10" back on the hood. Not the complete hood or the fenders.

Is Xpel a coating or a covering, like Clear Bra? I want something that will protect against rock chips, particularly since today's water based paints seem to chip a lot more readily than previous.

$1700 is way too much for what they are covering. You should be paying closer to 800-1000. Xpel is a brand of paint protection film, and they are one of the best on the market.

Expel in Boise, ID did the basic package for $895. That is 1/3 hood and fenders, backs of mirrors and front bumper. They did a great job.

I got the whole front of the truck covered (bumper, headlights, mirrors, whole hood and fenders) with Xpel ultimate for $1400 I believe.

Hey, that's near me! I am interested in more details: did they do the headlights as well for that price? ow long did it take? How's it holding up?

Thanks!

Sorry so slow to respond. The headlights were a little extra. Happy so far.

If you are ambitious, North Tints sells a complete clear bra kit on eBay. I did their kit on my 17 Fiesta ST. Turned out ok. Could be better. But it was only $300, and I can do it myself 3x for the price of 1 shop install. Second time I do it, will be near perfect now that I understand what not to do.
