i called the ford dealer on Aug2 and have an appointment for Aug11 for check engine light and an oil change. they also said NOT to fill the gas tank but it is ok to drive it as is with the light on. that sounds good BUT i have under a quarter of a tank left so it will stay home until the 11th. its a good thing i still have my old superduty and my bike.

Yeah I sold my big Triumph Thunderbird Storm a bit ago because of my deteriorating back. Missing it now. I have an electric tandem which will look like I stole it if I ride the 14 miles to work!

I know how you feel. I had back surgery in 2019 (lamminar S3 &S4)now its starting to hurt again. maybe too much bouncing around in a boat or the bike but I wont stop doing the things I like. my bike is a 2015 Vulcan Vaquero 1700 that I bought new and when that gets too heavy to hold up Ill trade it for something smaller and lighter. my trucks are my tools that let me keep fishing and camping till the day I die.

That evap canister has been a problem for folks in the past.

Let me guess. Did you have it undercoated?
Is there any way to avoid this when getting a truck under coated? i plan on doing mine in the next 2 months and now kinda worried but i dont have a choice as the winters here are harsh.

If there is im not aware of it but when I get undercoated again in november I will tell the guy NOT to put any undercoating above the gas tank. maybe that will help. I also watched a youtube video from ford tech makaloco?? where he shows how to spray WD40 around the gas fillercap to prevent some check engine lights related to engine emmisions just like Im having now. any way I will see what ford does to fix my problem tomorrow and go from there. I have a feeling ford will just clear the code and tell me to call them if it comes back. I have only one dealer where I live and they are always booked solid even for oil changes let alone any repairs or warranty work.

From what I understand, yes.

The output from the canister can be avoided. But I'm not positive as I've never undecorated a vehicle before.

Search here. There have been numerous threads about it.

So my wife does the books for a Mazda Specialist shop we have known for years. He was kind enough to take a look. Pulled a misfire #1 code. He took the coil pack off and the hole was filled with water that looks like it's been there a very long time! Not coolant. So he got some of it out said as long as my light doesn't flash I should be good until the dealer can look at it. Very weird, we have no idea how it got in there unless the engine was in weather before installed in the truck!? Really glad I didn't hit the road with my trailer and go to Idaho to visit a cousin, like I had been thinking.

i took my truck to the dealer on Aug.11 and got it back today. so the fuel purge valve on top of the gas tank was faulty and a new one was ordered over the weekend and installed today under warranty. there was no mention of under coating or over filling the gas tank cuasing the fault. on the way home i stopped at the gas station and filled the tank AND pulled the nozzle out when the pump kicked off. no more over filling just to be safe. also when i get under coated again in november i will be shure to insist on no under coating above the gas tank. im not shure if the gas tank is plastic or metal but ill take that chance on it rusting or not.

My check engine light went on this afternoon. It’s a 2021 with 28600km on it. It was like WTH. I had filled that tank (but did not top off) earlier in the day But only had to drive like 20km before parking for about 3 or so hours at my office outside. The temp was about 30c when I drove home. I only live 4 km from the office and check engine light lit up 1.5 km in. But there was no hesitation or sputtering so it didn’t seem like there was a spark plug issue.
I read on other threads here about the ball in the gas tank not seating properly after fill up. So I shoved that special fuel tank funnel in to see if it did anything to correct the seal. Started it up after taking out the funnel and the check engine light went off like it was supposed to. Drove around for half hour and check engine light didn’t come back on.
So I don’t really know what happened but my theory is maybe too much pressure with the heat (?) and the ball not seated correctly that caused it to show check engine. Or maybe it is a faulty fuel purge valve like the OP ended up having. I prefer to go with my theory - nothing to replace so no real down time with the truck. Will see what it does tomorrow. If nothing then I can still take it camping this weekend with the family. ! Prefer not to stuff everything into the escape to go!

Oh and I didn’t have any rust protections sprayed on. So we can rule that out as a cause

It would be pretty helpful to know what code was thrown as part of the CEL notification.

Honestly, right now it sounds like you had a temporary seal issue with the filler system that you may have addressed by dicking around with the funnel, etc.
