I went the cheap route.
I had a box that just the right size and made it fit the bottom, white plastic flat piece lays on top.

I have no use for it to be so deep so I raised the bottom up.

Yes, a little dremel work took a few minutes...

Got mine in the mail today (eBay) and found out my Dremel is dead and my buddy is at work so I can't get his. Me being impatient found the next best thing,a soldering iron. Cut right through like butter and works perfect! Not the prettiest but I'll clean it up one day. Who am I kidding no one will ever see it.

I used a copping saw. No sanding needed

More photos and some rough dimensions for you all... pretty easy job with a dremel. This was just enough to let the tabs clear on the arm rest.

The armsest and storage in it just suck! its way TOO small. The newer escapes have one that is a lot more useful, 2018-19. This thing is about as bad as our '16 escape.

Got mine on Thursday. Minor mod and you’re all set. Can’t beat it for the money. And you still have enough room under it for a sub compact if you want.
