*UPDATE* Shop replaced the damaged tire free of charge.

Word of caution when having shop install tires. Never thought this could happen, but here we are. Happened to me today, and it was an extremely strange occurrence. During the course of installing new tires, the shop managed to bend the passenger side brake line bracket all the way into the sidewall of the tire. So, apparently this can happen to the Ranger somehow.

Also, these are Falken Wildpeak AT3W in 265/70/R17. No rubbing (now), truck has no modifications.
Driver's side (normal)
Pax side (bent)

i hope they gave you a new tire, fixed the brake line and kissed your aft end profusely . what kind of igmo does that. its like they tried to toss the wheel on the lug bolts from a foot or two away and missed.
that tires compromised and needs to be trashed or used as back up only, lawn trailer etc.

If you had the Hankooks before, they are 10.3” wide and the Wildpeaks are 10.7“. So, maybe it was already like that?

Theoretically it could have been. Not sure what would have happened to bend it to the point where it was less than 1/2” away from the tire prior to taking it to the shop. However, they still gave it back to me without doing any quality check. They told me they heard a noise, but didn’t see anything and I presumed it was just the hum of all terrains. So they heard something, didn’t look, sent me on my way.

Hi Calvin,

The brake line bracket is quite a robust piece. Looking at your pictures it does not appear the bracket has any witness marks which implies tire lugs caught it somehow. The problem is that the complete story of how this happened is likely with the tire in a position dynamically more that the static pictures show... Puzzling at best now. Is it possible you aired down the tires for off roading or maybe something like a tree branch got kicked up? Not a rock as there is an absence of witness marks.

Glad they found it before a brake line issue cropped up....

best,
Phil

It’s incredibly puzzling. I’ve never aired down the truck previously either. Very strange.
