This just became a must go situation
I always bring my gear and camp at the Ford Nationals, which is part of the fun....grilling, smoking lots of cigars, and making crunchy percolator coffee in the morning, but there is no camping at the Truck Nationals apparently. Might have to find a regular campground or I can just drive out in the morning on Saturday and drive home after, it's about 3 hours each way for me.

Heck, you're in Baltimore so you might be closer than I am.

I believe the camping got a little rowdy about ten years ago or something like that and they stopped allowing it. Yeah, I live in Harford county and work in Baltimore. Harco actually touches Pennsylvania in a few places. I’m like 50 minutes away from York and maybe 2 hours away from Carlisle. I take 74 right through the city of York and to Carlisle because I enjoy the scenery, would be quicker to take the turnpike but…nope.

Definitely saving that on my calendar I’m about 3 hours away also. I went to the giant swap meet at Carlisle years ago when I had my 68 fastback.

Hi Jon,

Having been there for the birth of Ranger and in various capacities during my career, I will be there is spirit....

Best,
Phil
Thanks Phil, well if you can find a way to get there, but I understand your situation.
At the moment I am in discussions with Jim Oaks at TheRangerStation.com working on a way to get his much-modded truck up to Carlisle from Texas. Problem is that he has a family event in Tennessee that weekend. Back in 2001 two Ford engineers showed up at our off-road run in Ohio with a prototype FX4, don't know if you were one of them as that was just before I joined. Jim has been a friend for 20 years and used to live in Ohio just over the border from me.

Hi Jon,

Yep...Doug S and Dave S as I recall. Marketing organized. Way to busy with crap to have a fun time doing this and Doug S deserved to be in the lime light on these FX4 as a vehicle dynamics expert and Doug and Dave were part of my Off road Racing team.

Best,
Phil

Jim is still in touch with Ford, in fact in 2019 they loaned him a new Ranger, heretofore known as the "Loan Ranger", an FX4 with a bed rack and tent for him to drive the Trans America Trail and write about it for Ford's in-house magazine. I got a ride in it and shot some video at our anniversary run in 2019 at an off-roading park in Ohio. Very impressive for a relatively stock truck with only slightly larger mud-terrain tires added. I had my 2008 Sport Trac at the time, which wasn't real off-roady so I rode with Jim in the new truck and also his much-modded 1996 Ranger, also another friend's tube frame rock buggy that weighed 2000 lb with a 400 hp Chevy LS that would pull the front wheels off the ground on dirt. Good times.
