Not necessarily.
Those of us of a certain age will testify to the durability of a B&S motor.

I can't tell you how many times I have cussed the one on my daddy's mower when I was a kid because it would start EVERY FREAKING TIME when I really didn't want it to!
I am quite familiar with B&S. But you can take one out in a heartbeat on a stump. Ask my wife.

At least you had a gas mower (probably self propelled too), how about the old push mowers on a hot summer afternoon.

Gas, yes.
Self-propelled, not a chance.
Daddy finally bought a riding mower after I graduated high school and left home to start my own life.

Yes same for me. When I left for the service my dad bought gas mower and also a snowblower. I guess he figured that was cheaper than paying since his free labor was leaving. Do not blame him I have an electric mower and snowblower myself now. At least I have to walk behind it so I get a 4 mile walk out of it.
Also made a lot of money cutting grass and shoveling snow. Probably only kid who asked for a snow shovel for Xmas.

You folks had it easy! I had a reel mower, hand shears and a sickle to cut and trim. My mom seemed to plant a flower garden a month on one acre. Got a gas mower my senior year.

I had the hand shears for trimming out too. Hated those things with a passion.

Me too. I remember when we got our first plug-in weed wacker. Thought it was the best thing ever.

When I was 15 my first job was a parts washer at a VW repair shop. They handed me a sickle and told me to clear a 30x50 lot to park cars in. After I cleared it they had a load of caliche dumped then I had to spread that. After about 2 weeks, we had a nice place to park cars that were waiting to be worked on. Then they started teaching me to work on the bugs. Stupid me I became a mechanic.
