Considering they got the date of the "latest iteration of the Ranger" wrong (2022), I'm not sure I'd give that article too much weight.

I have heard rumors of a Bronco pickup (kind of like the Gladiator), which might be what they are referring to, but it seems kind of stupid honestly. IMO the reason Rangers don't sell better is 2 reasons:
  1. They don't make enough of them - they've prioritized Broncos over Rangers - you can't sell what you don't produce
  2. They don't advertise Rangers - when was the last time you saw a Ranger advertisement? I can recall seeing two in the 7 years I've owned mine. I still maintain this is on purpose from Ford because they don't want to rob potential sales from the F-150. They will do almost anything to keep the "best selling truck for xx years" title.

  • There's talk of an off road "Baja" Mustang.
  • A 4dr Mustang has been shown to dealers.
  • Transit Connect returns on the C2 Maverick platform, may have a different name.
  • My guess is that Ford's Ranger product planning will follow Toyota's. Just as they build the smaller HiLux for the ROW and the larger Tacoma for North America, Ford will have a larger F100 in NA only for now.
  • What we know as the Ranger in the NA Market will morph into the upcoming F100, due probably in 2028 or-29, while the ROW keeps theT6 Ranger.
  • Bronco will get a pickup version based on the current T6.2 architecture.
  • Lincoln "Bronco?" Farley wants a Land Rover competitor, moving ranger out of Michigan Assembly Plant (MAP) possibly to the new Tennessee Truck Plant (TTP) would free up capacity for a boutique Bronco PU and a Lincoln ORV.
  • An EREV Super Duty is coming.
  • Hybrids Hybrids Hybrids
Not sure if the F100 will be built on the T6 framework or something altogether different. Probably a tad larger than the 6G Ranger, like the Y2K Tundra, but physically smaller that the F150.

Ranger was always the red-headed stepchild in NA. Mark Fields wanted to resurrect the original Bronco, to compete with Jeep.
Ford ceased manufacturing in Australia (as did everyone else),
and was already building Ranger in Thailand for the Oceania markets: perfect storm. The OZ tooling was shipped to MAP and a new U725 Bronco was designed using the T6 body on frame bones. The emphasis has always been on the Bronc; if some Rangers got sold all the better.

For August, Ranger was one of the few bright spots, up 18.9% for the month and 4.3% for the year. production has also increased for the year. More on ford's plans in Post #3.

There's another way to look at the numbers and I suspect it's more how Ford views them.

The percentage increase on overall smaller volume isn't that important. Amortization of development costs, model year update costs, and warranty costs over a smaller base means that Ranger is not a high-margin product like the F-series or even the Maverick, which followed a faster and less costly development track.

Morphing the Ranger into the Bronco brand potentially elevates its status by aligning it with a lifestyle/enthusiast product line. At that point, I don't see much need for a standalone mid-size truck nameplate. The 7G would be the logical point for that to happen and it allows Ford to share 7G pickup development costs over the entire Bronco base. It also fills a gap in the Bronco line to help draw potential Gladiator buyers to Ford.

So that's my armchair product planner and corporate executive view. It's worth exactly what I got paid to write it.

Frankly, That Bronco pick up is fugly!
True. I thought that of the old Bronco pick ups and the Gladiator too but people will still buy them. :)

I read the F100 will replace the Ranger and be slightly larger then the current Ranger in the US. It will have a 10,000 pound towing / 1000 pound tongue weight option avable and possibly a V8 option. The steering and brakes will be fly by wire giving it full self driving capability. Sounds like my old 98 F250 light duty platform coming back on steroids 😲.

The way I see it, the Bronco PU will be an additional configuration using the T6.2-U725 architecture (Bronco), rather than P703; the 6G Ranger. In other words, a Bronco with an open cargo area rather than slapping Bronco bits on a Ranger.

Alas poor Ranger we hardly knew ye. The F-series nomenclature has more familiarity and caché than Ranger in North America, hence I believe that the Ranger nameplate will be discontinued here in favor of F100 or F-something for the next generation. Ford is inexorably moving away from Mullally's One Ford into Bunch O' Fords.

Conventional Wisdom in the marketplace and at Ford and other Mfr's is saying NA trucks are getting too big and expensive, and so the F100 seems like a good idea. Good cab room, enough payload and towing for family use, a smaller footprint for easier parking, and more economical to buy and operate than an F150

What is unclear at the moment: will the F100 be built on the T6 framework like a modified ROW Ranger Super Duty, or a whole new frame that could accommodate EREV, PHEV, etc in the future?

As mentioned, Farley also wants a Lincoln Range Rover Beater, which would make sense to build at MAP, alongside the Bronco and Bronco pickup. F100 could be built at the new TTP, but somewhere, somehow production of the T6 framework would also need to be increased substantially to support all these models.

Plan B would be to build F100 on the CD6 Unibody platform (Ford Explorer & Lincoln Aviator). Unlikely, but modifying the T3 (F-Series) platform for a smaller, light duty F100 may be what they do.

I have heard rumors. Bronco and Ranger are built on a similar platform and they may do it to reduce redundancy. I trust this site far more for good info. https://fordauthority.com/2026/08/ford-bronco-pickup-may-replace-ranger-at-michigan-assembly-plant/
Yes, a Bronco pickup is going to replace the Ranger at MAP and the Ranger will no longer be built there. A new Ranger replacement will come out of TTP.

Here is a link to a post (last June) that I have been keeping updated:

https://www.ranger6g.com/forum/thre...y-walkaround-details.17529/page-3#post-446065

I like this plan. I think there are good changes coming for Ranger enthusiasts.

Chris I think you mostly nailed it except for:

  • What we know as the Ranger in the NA Market will morph into the upcoming F100, due probably in 2028 or-29, while the ROW keeps theT6 Ranger.
I think ROW also gets the new F-100 truck (T6.3) based on the Ranger SD but I'm betting for ROW the name remains Ranger. Ranger is an icon for ROW but not NA. It will position this new ROW Ranger as a potential Hilux killer with its far greater towing and payload capabilities.

  • Bronco will get a pickup version based on the current T6.2 architecture.
I think the next gen Bronco, Lincoln Bronco, the new Bronco pickup and the F-100 all consolidate on the new T6.3 underpinnings. The timing for all lines up.

Agreed. But for Bronco enthusiasts it's probably beautiful. I can see it doing just as well (or better) as the Gladiator. Gladiator sold 56,367 units in 2025 which is not terribly far from Ranger sales (70,960 units in 2025). I could see Ranger Raptor buyers moving to the Bronco pickup? Ford loves Raptors (big profits) and the Bronco pickup probably gets a Raptor too.

Ford is betting that these three models fill out MAP production as good or better than current production. F-100 (and all its variants) put TTP to very good use.

I think this is a better rendering:

On the bright side, if they rebadged the Ranger an F-100, maybe they would pay more attention to it since it would be part of the "F Series" trucks......
