My daughter has a 19 ranger. They recently changed the cabin air filter. There is now a buzzing noise when the fan is on the highest speed (like when on max cool). I pulled the filter last night and it seemed to improve some, but still there. I asked if she was certain that the sound wasn't there initially and now she isn't sure. Does anyone have any ideas or know if it is abnormal? Almost sounds like a buzz.

You might have to drop the blower motor and hamster cage. It sounds like something has dropped in there when the filter was changed.
I had to get acorns out of mine once. IIRC it involves undoing three screws and unplugging a plug. Fiddly but not hard.

I looked at it yesterday. I was thinking the same thing. Only way to really know.

There have been a few threads on a similar problem - leaves, rodents nesting, other debris, etc. Folks seem to get it solved with a bit of finicky work. Good luck and may God have mercy on your back, neck, and knuckles. ;)

This happened to me. The dealer changed the cabin filter and I had the same thing on both high and the second highest fan speeds. Took it back and they had to pull the box and clean it out. Seems leaves and other debris can get in there and sit on the filter. You pull it out and the debris falls in.

When I do it I’m tempted to try and slide some cardboard in under the old filter so that when I pull it out the debris will be on the cardboard and I can vacuum it up.
Bad design.

Yes, it appears that if you do not have the (added) inlet screen to help prevent mice entry leaves and associated debris find can be found on top of the filter, due to the design of the filter housing when you pull it sideways to remove the filter anything sitting on top of it gets knocked off and it drops down into the squirrel cage.
The extra screen stops / blocks that from happening and only the dust can make its way down to the top of the filter.

Ref: added screen, various screens have been used for this, I am using drywall sanding screen and (Speed Tape)

I'm trying to orient myself to figure out where you've put that screen. I should do that. Do you have a pic from farther away that would show me where I can install that screen? That's a great idea!

The same thing happened to me at the dealership. Ask then to re-install it so that it doesn't touch the fan

Perfect, thank you! Will check it out this weekend. Now I wonder if I can put a shop vac down there and suck up anything that's made its way down there since the filter was changed....
