you mean it had a seperate button on the key or it locked/unlocked with the door button? A separate tailgate button would be nice where it never locks unless you hit the button. I guess I just need to learn to keep the keys in my pocket.
Also I guess even if they put the little switch on the tailgate handle like the door handles have you would still need the key in your pocket for it to work.
Just grab the back door handle if you have a Super Crew.

No separate button on the key fob. The gate was always unlocked unless I inserted the ignition key in the tailgate and locked it, as well as unlocking it took the ignition key. It was not connected to the locking/unlocking of the doors like are Rangers are.

I hope no one notices that I installed my front license plate bracket upside down! Geez, I feel bad enough about just having a tailgate shock!! Couldn't stand any more shame!

Now that plate bracket install looks a lot better than the intended position, I'll do the same on my 2020.
Question though, has it affected any of the truck's safety systems, like frontal collision avoidance?

You can use the key with the Ranger too. They should have put the keyless lock/unlock sensor in the handle like all four doors have.

Yes they should have. Just me being simple but why the key slot in the handle?

Ahhh yes I would much prefer that. I guess I could unplug it and use the physical key to lock/unlock it.

I like the bracket how it's supposed to go with the FX4 but there with the regular front with the air dam it looks better like that.

Don't hurt yourself LOL:):):):)

I have to laugh when reading about the sub-5-second drop being too much time

I guess I don't understand all the critics. You don't want one. No need to post the personal negatives as people who want it will get it. . Those who don't want it and/ or ridicule it are not gonna change any minds of those who love it. .

Those who bought it and want to buy it have their own reasoning. Personally I enjoy the convenience of carrying items and opening the tailgate....Moves down nice in less than five seconds max and smooth....Ford could have sold these for $49 and many would still purchase one
I've had one of these for about two years now, filmed the install and put on YouTube, so many people calling me a pussy for not wanting it to slam down on my kids head......

thing is your kid would probably laugh that's how light it is. As for youtube... The youtube comment section is the cesspool of the internet. No matter what you post on youtube if you have comments enabled people are gonna say nasty shite.

The amount of hate in this thread is hilarious. Lucky for the people that hate this idea and love to slam their tailgates down ford didn’t force it on you and charge you for it in the price of the vehicle. Go ahead with your day. Drop that tailgate for fun and do a manly grunt.

The people who want this or already have it all have their reasons. For me:

1. I hate slamming anything. No matter what it is, it will last longer and perform better if it’s taken care of and not slammed/dropped

2. My wife and kid do not know how to operate this item properly and will slam or drop it everytime.

3. 3.5 seconds to have it lower easily and without worry vs the 1.5 seconds of dropping furry (2 second net advantage) isn’t going to make or break my day. I will also take the added time back into my day where I am not calling the body shop when my tailgate dropped and I couldn’t get the item I was trying to load into the truck out of the way before it slammed down on top of it and damaged my tailgate.

I can’t wait to get mine. It just shipped today. Should be installed in 3-5 days when I get it!

You're unplugging your camera as well so not ideal.
Unplug the lock/unlock solenoid inside the inspection cover. Leave the camera connected.

And while we're at it...... What about that dampened glove box?? I timed mine at 2.3 seconds for full drop. This is unacceptable. What if I want to get something out of the glovebox real fast?!;)

It doesn't obscure any sensors. (as far as I can tell and I looked before installation)

sorry if you cant open the Ranger's tailgate without slamming or dropping it you ether have severe mental issues or you don't even have the strength to hold a full can of beer.
